The sooner you use it on a cold sore just starting, the more it will prevent the cold sore from growing. When a cold sore is burning and inflamed, you know it is still growing. Abreva stops that stage in its tracks and lets you start to heal. VS Most Liked Negative Review This Product Works Abreva really does work. Comments about Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, Pump, .07 oz: This is the only thing that works for me. I liked the pump until it didn't pump anymore, so I came on here and started reading the reviews. Turns out I am not the only one. I did take one reviewer's advice and took a pair of needle nose pliers and took the blue part off. I felt like I had hit the jackpot when I saw how much was still in the bottle. It is such a good product that I will use my pliers every time until I get the last drop though. Better than being in pain and having a cold sore get out of control! Comments about Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, Pump, .07 oz: At the start of a cold sore tingle....I can get the cold sore in control by applying this immediately. If I am a little late using it....the cold sore will still come on but it only last half the time and the swelling is down 90%. The only problem is that more comes out than you want every time and I hate having to waste so much when it is pretty expensive. Comments about Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, Pump, .07 oz: This product would get 4 or 5 stars from me, if it weren't for the PUMP delivery system. One pump (and even if you try the old "half pump" method) squirts out a TON of product. It's very wasteful. Because the stuff is so expensive (especially considering the small amount you get), I try to use only what I need, but that's impossible with the pump. I feel it's a scam to make customers use/waste MORE and therefore BUY MORE. My advice: avoid the pump and shop around for another product. As soon as the makers of Abreva get some competition, I'm gone. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend (3 of 3 customers found this review helpful) Was this review helpful? Comments about Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, Pump, .07 oz: Abreva is one of the best studied treatments for cold sores that's available without a prescription. It keeps the virus from being able to enter and infect as many skin cell as it normally would. Clinical studies have shown that cold sores treated with Abreva heal an average of 17.5 hours faster than those not treated. For Abreva to be most effective, you should start using it immediately as soon as you get the first symptoms (tingling, burning, numbness) of a cold sore. The pump is not an efficient way of packaging Abreva as it always pumps out twice as much of the cream as you need. However, I'd guess that the tube and pump both probably waste about the same amount of the product. I find if I take 3,000 mg of L-Lysine and use Abreva right away, The L-Lysine is very key, and I'd recommend it to anyone who gets cold sores: 3,000 mg at the first symptom then 1,000 mg three time a day until symptoms resolve.
