First: Because of the price, buy the tube not the pump. There was a lot of waste with the pump!
I've tried just about everything over my lifetime to combat cold sores and I just finished using my first tube of Abreva. I found it worked about the same as prescription medications I've been given in the past. It definitely shortens the painful period of the cold sore and knocks down the blistering.
Nothing I have tried has ever really shortened the appearance of a cold sore for me. If I get them, I usually have it for a week to 10 days in one form or another. Once it stops hurting I still have 5 to 7 days of scabbing etc. with or without medication. There are rare incidents when I get it early enough to stop them, but that isn't very often. Some just won't be stopped.
I was happy with Abreva and will continue to use it for its pain relief. I'll have to continue to search for something that will actually stop them in their tracks. Abreva (and everything else I've tried) just doesn't do that.

I tend to get cold sores once or twice a year...now that I use abreva at the first tingle the cold sores go away BEFORE they can get started(seriously)! In the winter I carry this in my bag at all times.

I have battled fever sores since I was a child. This is the only over the counter medication that minimizes the pain and the development of the sores. If used early enough and consistently, the cold sore won't even develop.

This is expensive, although it has gone down in price considerably, and it is worth every penny. This product is the one product the I cannot leave the house without. If I feel any tingling on my lips, i just put this on and never worry about it again. IT WORKS EVERYTIME!

Abreva is the only product that works for me! I used to get cold sores constantly and nothing helped to relieve the pain, itching, burning, tingling, and grossness of the sores. They would last for 1-2 weeks and look abominable. I wanted to hide in a closet. Then I found Abreva and now, at the first sign of a tingle or itch, I put it on and the sore never even appears!! It's a miracle! If a sore pops up overnight, I put Abreva on in the morning and then as often as I can, and the sore is always gone by the end of the day. I can honestly say that now I never get a full outbreak any more like I used to all the time. Maybe the people whose sores got worse are allergic to the ingredients or something, because this product has been fabulous for me, and I would never use anything else. It's worth the pricey cost.

I use Abreva at the first sign of a cold sore, and it definitely shortens the outbreak by several days if not a week. Sometimes, if I use it early enough, it seems to prevent the cold sore altogether. I like to keep it on hand just in case, because it is most useful the sooner you use it.

It's somewhat expensive, but totally worth the price.

Extremely Pricey especially for the size you get. I think it helps some, but it is not magic.

Have tried prescriptions and home remedies, this product works. Use it at the first tingling hint of a cold sore on the lip. A small amount will do. And, as far as additional home remedies...ice the area first, it makes a difference.
