Chemical Name: ALCLOMETASONE (al-kloe-MET-a-sone)

Common uses for Aclovate
Aclovate 0.05% Ointment is a corticosteroid used to reduce itching, redness, and swelling associated with many skin conditions. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Aclovate
INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking prednisone (or similar medicines). Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding.

Directions for Aclovate
Follow the directions for using Aclovate 0.05% Ointment provided by your doctor. TO USE ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT: apply a small amount of medicine to the affected area. Gently rub the medicine in until it is evenly distributed. Wash your hands after applying Aclovate 0.05% Ointment, unless your hands are part of treated area. DO NOT BANDAGE OR WRAP the affected area unless directed otherwise by your doctor. STORE ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT at room temperature, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT, apply it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Cautions for Aclovate
DO NOT TAKE ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. IF YOUR SYMPTOMS DO NOT IMPROVE WITHIN A FEW DAYS, or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use Aclovate 0.05% Ointment for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Aclovate 0.05% Ointment. Do not use any other medicines or special cleansers on your skin unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. AVOID GETTING ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT IN YOUR EYES or on the inside of your nose or mouth. CAUTION IS ADVISED WHEN USING ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT IN CHILDREN because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the medicine. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Aclovate 0.05% Ointment during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Aclovate 0.05% Ointment, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Aclovate
CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience skin thinning and discoloration, stinging, rash, dry skin, itching, burning, redness, or swelling not present before using Aclovate 0.05% Ointment. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much Aclovate
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms may include blurred vision or other vision changes; muscle weakness; severe or persistent headache; symptoms of high blood sugar (eg, increased thirst or urination, confusion, unusual drowsiness); or unusual weight gain, especially in the face.

DO NOT SHARE ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT for other health conditions. KEEP ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT out of the reach of children. IF USING ACLOVATE 0.05% OINTMENT FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
