We recently went on a vacation to Mexico and were required to use biodegradable insect repellant on some of the tours we had booked. I purchased this prior to our trip to use on these excursions. I admit that I was skeptical that a natural product would be effective but did feel some reassurance when I read on the label that it was endorsed by National Geographic. Our tours were in the jungle of the Yucatan and as soon as we entered the jungle, there were swarms of various insects, especially mosquitoes. We had not yet applied our repellant, so we hurried to get it on. It is a pump-spray, so we did have to rub it in once we sprayed it on our skin. It slowed us down a bit, but I was very surprised (and very pleased) to see how effective it worked! I didn't have any insects on or near my skin once I applied it. I did find one bite on my leg, but I believe that it occurred prior to applying the repellant. The spray definitely smells like citronella, but isn't offensive. In the past, I've used low-DEET products as I don't feel comfortable with heavy concentrations of DEET on my skin. Now that I've tried the natural alternative and have found that it works, I will likely continue to buy this product in the future rather than the DEET containing products.

The citronella scent lingered a while, but then went away. I happen to like it; if you don't, you might want to consider another product. The white lotion is a little "heavy", so rinse your hands after applying. The product is extremely effective; I saw insects around but they never lit—and it was a hot day; I was sweating.

I used it on my toddler when we were on vacation. I like that the ingredients are natural. It worked well but didn't smell so great.

This product works on my two year old in our woodsy backyard in GA. However, it sprays out in a lotion so you still have to rub it in. It also has a very srong smell, cintronella mostly. But it's an acceptable trade off to use something natural on my child.
