Chemical Name: ALPRAZOLAM (al-PRAZ-oh-lam)
Alprazolam 0.25mg is a benzodiazepine used to treat anxiety and panic disorder. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Alprazolam 0.25mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg if you are also taking certain antifungal medicines (such as ketoconazole or itraconazole) or delavirdine. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking amiodarone, aprepitant, birth control pills, cimetidine, clozapine, cyclosporin, digoxin, ergotamine, isoniazid, nefazodone, propoxyphene, rifampin, St. John's wort, telithromycin, calcium channel blockers (such as diltiazem, nifedipine, or nicardipine), SSRI antidepressants (such as fluoxetine or fluvoxamine), tricyclic antidepressants (such as imipramine or desipramine), HIV protease inhibitors, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin or clarithromycin), certain stomach medicines (such as omeprazole or ranitidine), antihistamines (such as diphenhydramine or cetirizine), medicine for mental or mood disorders, or medicine for seizures (such as carbamazepine, phenytoin, or valproic acid). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including liver problems, kidney problems, breathing problems, certain blood problems (such as porphyria), glaucoma, family history of glaucoma, seizures, history of mental or mood problems or depression, history of routine alcohol or tobacco use, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. ROUTINE USE OF ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have certain types of glaucoma (such as narrow angle glaucoma or uncontrolled open angle glaucoma), severe liver disease, or severe mental or mood disorders. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about using Alprazolam 0.25mg.
Follow the directions for using Alprazolam 0.25mg provided by your doctor. Alprazolam 0.25mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while you are taking Alprazolam 0.25mg may increase the amount of Alprazolam 0.25mg in your blood, which may increase your risk for serious side effects. Talk with your doctor before including grapefruit or grapefruit juice in your diet. WASH AND THOROUGHLY DRY your hands immediately before taking Alprazolam 0.25mg. Open the bottle, remove the tablet, and immediately place the tablet on your tongue. You may allow the tablet to dissolve and swallow it with saliva, or you may take the tablet with water. Reseal the bottle tightly. If your dose is only half a tablet, discard the rest of the tablet immediately. Do not keep the rest of the tablet for later, as it may no longer work properly. STORE ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg at room temperature between 68 and 77 degrees F (20-25 degrees C), in a tightly closed container, away from heat, moisture, and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg and you are using it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
DO NOT TAKE ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or to another benzodiazepine, or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. If using Alprazolam 0.25mg for an extended period of time, DO NOT CHANGE YOUR DOSE OR SUDDENLY STOP taking Alprazolam 0.25mg without your doctor's approval. Some conditions may become worse when the medicine is suddenly stopped. Your dose may need to be slowly lowered to avoid side effects. When used for an extended period of time, Alprazolam 0.25mg may not work as well and may require different dosing. Talk with your doctor if Alprazolam 0.25mg stops working well. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or take Alprazolam 0.25mg for longer than prescribed. Exceeding the recommended dose or taking Alprazolam 0.25mg for longer than prescribed may be habit-forming. Laboratory and/or medical tests, such as blood and urine tests, may be performed if you are using Alprazolam 0.25mg long term to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Alprazolam 0.25mg. Because of a risk of interaction with certain anesthetics or muscle relaxants, BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Alprazolam 0.25mg. ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg MAY CAUSE drowsiness or dizziness. Do not drive, operate machinery, or do anything else that could be dangerous until you know how you react to Alprazolam 0.25mg. Using Alprazolam 0.25mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. DO NOT DRINK ALCOHOL without your doctor's approval while taking Alprazolam 0.25mg. ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg WILL ADD TO THE EFFECTS of alcohol or other medicines that may cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines can cause drowsiness. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. USE ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg WITH CAUTION IN THE ELDERLY because they may be more sensitive to the effects of Alprazolam 0.25mg. FOR WOMEN: ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg HAS BEEN SHOWN TO CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Alprazolam 0.25mg during pregnancy. ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg IS EXCRETED IN BREAST MILK. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Alprazolam 0.25mg.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Alprazolam 0.25mg include changes in appetite, changes in sexual desire, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, increased saliva production, lightheadedness, tiredness, trouble concentrating, unsteadiness, or weight changes. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience confusion, decreased urination, loss of coordination, memory problems, menstrual changes, muscle twitching, overstimulation, severe or persistent trouble sleeping, trouble speaking (such as stammering or stuttering), or yellowing of the eyes or skin. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience fainting; hallucinations; new or worsening mental or mood problems (such as depression, irritability, anxiety); red, swollen, blistered, or peeling skin; seizures; severe dizziness; or suicidal thoughts or actions. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Alprazolam 0.25mg is unlikely but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include confusion, decreased coordination, unusually deep sleep, and loss of consciousness.
If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg for other health conditions. KEEP ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg out of the reach of children. IF YOU WILL BE USING ALPRAZOLAM 0.25mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
