The forming cream keeps the gel from getting crunchy and the gel gives that extra hold for the forming cream. They work well together and you only have to use a little of each product.

Not the same, it's still under the sink. Worth the extra money to buy the American Crew brand. One has thick curly hair and one has less thick straight hair. It works very well with both hair types.
