Moisturizes and Softens Rough, Dry Skin

A special formulation of 12% lactic acid neutralized with ammonium hydroxide to provide a lotion pH of 4.5-5.5. Lactic acid, an alpha-hydroxy acid, is a naturally occurring humectant for the skin. AmLactin® moisturizes and softens rough, dry skin.

There's so much to love about this lotion, and a couple of things to really intensely dislike. It boils down to effectiveness vs. smell.

I bought it to try for bumps on my upper arms and had minor success, it seemed to reduce the bumps a bit. It is, however, fantastic for keeping my feet soft. It just seems to eat rough skin. Because of the drastic results with using it on my feet, and out of curiosity and a misguided sense of adventure, I tried it on my face. My skin is pretty sensitive so I'm sure plenty of people could use it without stinging and looking sunburned, but miraculously, after that wore off, I didn't have pores for at least a week. I'm in my 30s, in that phase that's pre-lines, but my pores are mounting an offensive to claim ever expanding territory on my face. Having my pores disappear for over a week almost made explaining the weird sunburny look worth it. It goes without saying that sunscreen is a must with an alpha hydroxy lotion (even if you're washing it off before leaving the house), to avoid a double helping of sun damage. These days I don't even peek outside without spf 90 so it isn't an issue for me.

Unfortunately, it smells (and tastes) terrible. The ammonia in the lotion smells exactly the way you'd expect. It's very faint, but really, most people have a pretty low thresh-hold for smelling like urine. There's no fragrance in the lotion, and I've seen other reviews suggesting mixing with something that smells good, but that just sounds like it would smell like urine and say...vanilla. The taste is horrifying, and I realize most people don't eat lotion, but eventually someone is likely to kiss you (especially in the post-sunburn, pre-return of the pores window), or you will just get some on your own lips while applying to your face. It combines the taste of blue cheese and lemon heads, with the sensation of licking a 9 volt battery while chewing tinfoil, if that's your favorite dessert, you're in for a treat!

This stuff is super effective. There's no two ways about it. If you're not smell sensitive, and not likely to taste it, go crazy with it, it's a very clever lotion. It's genius for feet -- apart from being super effective, my feet are also far enough away from my nose that I can't smell the lotion, and I'm highly unlikely to have to taste it.

I bought this mainly for my son who has KP on his arms. I've been using it on him for about 2 weeks with not much noticable improvement. I was really expecting a little more from it, based on all of the positive reviews for that use. I have also been using it and it has really softened and smoothed my skin. I don't care for the smell and it is much heavier/greasier than other lotions I typically use. So, I guess if you don't mind a heavier lotion and are just looking for the moisturizing qualities of this lotion, you'll like it.

This is hands-down the best cream for treating KP. I've used so many products to treat my KP, both OTC and prescription, and nothing has come close to being as effective as AmLactin. It feels a little greasy, but it soaks in completely. Also, it has a funny smell when you rub it onto your skin, but the smell goes away quickly (within minutes). Be aware: you must use this lotion twice a day religiously for a long time (it took several months for me to see results), but you'll be happy you stuck with it!

I have suffered from extremely dry, itchy winter skin for years. I have tried everything (from drugstore lotion, prescription lotion, cremes, oils) and nothing ever relieved the intense itching of my skin in the winter (or the little bumps that went along with the itch). Within one day of using this product, my skin was soft, bump-free and no longer itched!
After shaving, the product burns a bit when you put it on, but that is just the acids in the lotion. It goes away after a few seconds. The smell is not great, but it is not offensive either. I splash my perfume on, and it goes on perfectly over the lotion. TRY this product!!
