There's so much to love about this lotion, and a couple of things to really intensely dislike. It boils down to effectiveness vs. smell.

I bought it to try for bumps on my upper arms and had minor success, it seemed to reduce the bumps a bit. It is, however, fantastic for keeping my feet soft. It just seems to eat rough skin. Because of the drastic results with using it on my feet, and out of curiosity and a misguided sense of adventure, I tried it on my face. My skin is pretty sensitive so I'm sure plenty of people could use it without stinging and looking sunburned, but miraculously, after that wore off, I didn't have pores for at least a week. I'm in my 30s, in that phase that's pre-lines, but my pores are mounting an offensive to claim ever expanding territory on my face. Having my pores disappear for over a week almost made explaining the weird sunburny look worth it. It goes without saying that sunscreen is a must with an alpha hydroxy lotion (even if you're washing it off before leaving the house), to avoid a double helping of sun damage. These days I don't even peek outside without spf 90 so it isn't an issue for me.

Unfortunately, it smells (and tastes) terrible. The ammonia in the lotion smells exactly the way you'd expect. It's very faint, but really, most people have a pretty low thresh-hold for smelling like urine. There's no fragrance in the lotion, and I've seen other reviews suggesting mixing with something that smells good, but that just sounds like it would smell like urine and say...vanilla. The taste is horrifying, and I realize most people don't eat lotion, but eventually someone is likely to kiss you (especially in the post-sunburn, pre-return of the pores window), or you will just get some on your own lips while applying to your face. It combines the taste of blue cheese and lemon heads, with the sensation of licking a 9 volt battery while chewing tinfoil, if that's your favorite dessert, you're in for a treat!

This stuff is super effective. There's no two ways about it. If you're not smell sensitive, and not likely to taste it, go crazy with it, it's a very clever lotion. It's genius for feet -- apart from being super effective, my feet are also far enough away from my nose that I can't smell the lotion, and I'm highly unlikely to have to taste it.

I bought this mainly for my son who has KP on his arms. I've been using it on him for about 2 weeks with not much noticable improvement. I was really expecting a little more from it, based on all of the positive reviews for that use. I have also been using it and it has really softened and smoothed my skin. I don't care for the smell and it is much heavier/greasier than other lotions I typically use. So, I guess if you don't mind a heavier lotion and are just looking for the moisturizing qualities of this lotion, you'll like it.

I have used this lotion for years. I have keritosis poularis (little red bumps) on the backs of my upper arms and on my thighs and this is the best lotion I have found at the price to smooth those out. Wouldn't be without this lotion. the only drawback is that it isn't the most pleasant smelling, but that is not overwhelming and it fades quickly...doesn't compete with my perfume.

Comments about AmLactin Moisturizing Lotion 12%, Fragrance Free, 14 oz:

I read so many good things about this product that I was excited to try it. I have very dry skin and spend a lot of time in the pool. The lotion is not thick to touch so it smoothed on easy but it left my skin feeling heavily coated and very sticky. Anywhere your limbs bend (knees, elbows, etc) will feel like they have to peel away from each other. I thought that after a while it would absorb but eventually I just had to shower it off. Very disappointed I wasted my money.

Comments about AmLactin Moisturizing Lotion 12%, Fragrance Free, 14 oz:

I recently bought three lotions, this one, the blue label AmLactin and, another high rated competitor. This green label AmLactin is the BEST. You should definitely use it twice a day though. I didn't notice any changes until after the first day of use. This absorbs into my skin quickly and does NOT leave me sticky. My biggest peeve about lotion is the stickiness. Using this, my skin has never been softer. The blue AmLactin, did leave a sticky residue for me and took a while, hours, to go away, as well as the other top competitor brand (Cerave). I am hooked on this and plan to continue using daily, forever!

This lotion is the best! Have had those annoying little bumps on the back of my arms for years, and this product has gone a long way with helping to get rid of them. In conjunction with Retin A, my arms are now smooth and soft. No more bumps! Yes, the smell is strong, but if you use it before bed, who cares? I will be using this forever!

I am 67 years old and have used this product on my face for years. I have almost no wrinkles and very soft skin. My husband starting using it on his face a few years ago and has had the same results. Friends are always commenting on my beautiful skin. I created "Amlactin", with a little help from heredity!

I have extremely dry skin and this is the ONLY moisturizer that helps it. The smell is not-so-good, but for what you receive in moisture, it's totally worth it. It's really a miracle lotion, I could not live without it.
