I had itchy red bumps on my upper arms, and went to see a dermatologist. He diagnosed it as Keratosis Pilaris, which is when your skin makes a lot of keratin protein and dry skin won't let it shed keratin/dry skin fast enough, so the hair follicles get plugged/red hard bumps. The dermatologist assured me that this is a common problem, and very manageable. He recommended AmLactin lotion and also AmLactin XL Moisturizing Lotion Ultraplex Formulation.

I read reviews complaining of the smell, but only noticed a smell while the lotion is being applied or is soaking into my skin. After the lotion dries, the smell goes away.

I was instructed to use AmLactin lotion twice daily. I always apply it after a shower, and sometimes at night. Even though I haven't always applied it at bedtime, it has really helped my bumps/Keratosis Pilaris a lot. Prior to using AmLactin lotion, the bumps were so bad that I was embarrassed to wear short sleeves. After 3 weeks of use (1-2 times daily), I would estimate that my Keratosis Pilaris is about 80-90% improved. The itchiness is gone, and only a few tiny bumps remain.

The skin on my arms improved so much that I decided to use it on my legs too. They are much softer now. Totally converted over to this stuff, and I will keep using it.

Bottom Line: there isn't a cure for Keratosis Pilaris, but regular use of this lotion really keeps it in check. I only wish it had some sort of scented option like lavendar oil or maybe some sort of gentle scent. It is unscented when dry, but I miss having a scented lotion (I think perfume is too strong).

I've been using the AmLactin 12% Ammonium Lactate lotion for about seven days. I find that one of the lotion's good points is that it has little or no odor. On the negative side, however, it takes forever to be absorbed into my skin, and leaves an oily feeling like that of suntan oil. This lasted for at least 10 minutes until I rubbed and rubbed and rubbed to get it to absorb into my skin. I don't feel that the product helped my dry skin and even made it feel dryer, as opposed to other products I've been using for severe dry skin. I wouldn't recommend this product.

Comments about AmLactin Moisturizing Lotion, 7.9 oz:

I was using this lotion to help alleviate my very dry hands, but started getting a rash immediately. Now I have gross ugly skin. I am not sure what ingredient in this lotion, caused this, but I do not recommend this lotion.

Comments about AmLactin Moisturizing Lotion, 7.9 oz:

I just started using this product last week that my dermatologist recommended in Jan. There definitely is an odor - not nasty smelling but somewhat medicinal & it stays all the time. I use in the am & pm. Takes some time to absorb. My skin is definitely smoother but I was using it for KP & sun damage. Have to use it longer to see if those places (many) are better.

Normally buy budget, but this lotion was recommended by my dermatologist and works very well.

this does contain 12% lactic acid which is the same stuff used by many for "peels" although the peels have a much higher acid content. But, if you use this in "sensitive areas" you may feel a slight discomfort. That said, I strongly recommend using this for any stubborn problem areas. The Ultra version works great for feet, heels and elbows.

Comments about AmLactin Moisturizing Lotion, 7.9 oz:

I use this every day after I shower. I have keratosis pilaris, and it's especially bad along the back of my thighs. This smooths it out and keeps it moisturized and not flaky. The bumps are not gone, this just keeps this from getting super dry and more noticeable. It's pretty pricy though for such a small bottle, but the good thing is that it's pretty rich, so you only need a quarter sized amount to moisturize most of your body.

It was recommended to me to get rid of annoying ingrown hair and it worked.
BUT I did a research on the ingredients and you shouldn't put petroleum chemicals on your skin because it clogs the pores, accelerating the aging process. Paraben has been identified as a cancerous substance. Don't forget that everything you put on your skin gets processed by your liver. So it's almost as if you were eating it. Don't put anything on your skin that you wouldn't comfortably eat.
