Aqua Velva is a surprisingly nice product for dime store after-shave. I suppose that is why it has been around for so long.

The scent is fresh and almost soapy - not flowery like so many other products. The scent fades fairly quickly with a nice tracer to linger.

SOMEHOW, you can splash on a fistful of Aqua Velva and not smell like a Third Street rental all day long. It seems that whether you use a little or a lot, the scent power remains about the same. That is a big advantage for guys who like to splash on their after-shave and not stink to high heaven all day long.

Despite the fact that Aqua Velva has been a main staple of every dime store in the USA since forever, most people cannot quite identify it by scent, so nobody knows that your nice clean smell cost close to $5.00

I rediscovered Aqua Velva a few months ago and was utterly amazed at how good--no, great this fragrance is! I am in my late 40's and I have owned and sampled 100's of different fragrances between $10 and $70 and Aqua Velva is one of the BEST fragrances. I think that the moss is what is so attractive to people: both genders say that they like it very much. In fact, I have had a few men (friends/relatives/aquaintances) ask me where I buy my cologne from: several recognized the scent. I also think that the staying power seems to fade within an hour or so, but I also wonder about that, because, I once had reapplied a little more Aqua Velva within a few hours of usage and noticed the scent was a little too much. I have even worn this in the gym (yeah, I know.... big no-no ...LOL) and have been told that I smell good.
As for Old Spice, I find that to be too strong, but I know that fragrance is a personal thing in which many people have different olfactory senses.
