This manages to do both, and very well. It cleans very effectively. This stuff is very gentle, and it doesn't sting your eyes. I was also very impressed with how much lather you can get out of a small amount. A dime-sized amount is enough to wash half of my body. I was so disappointed when they changed the body wash to a combination body wash/shampoo, as it's no longer soap-free. I decided to go ahead and try it, and I regret it now. It seems to be too irritating and too much like bubble bath. I don't recommend this for babies with sensitive skin, especially little girls. It is pricey but even now my son is 4 years old and I recently tried a different wash and he rashed immediately. I wish they sold it in a 30 oz. size. It is all we can use for wash and shampoo for him. The doctor says he most likely won't out grow his sensitive skin issues. Great because it is tear free, fragrance free and good for skin that has special needs and conditions.  Pros

It foams up nicely and washes thoroughly without any irritation. And it makes the baby's hair so soft! We go through it pretty quickly, but this product (and the Aquaphor ointment as well) is worth every penny! Pros

This fragrance free body wash and shampoo does an excellent job in cleaning, and even has, ironically, a subtle pleasant smell (from its natural substances, as there are no added fragrances.) Pros
