 | Are there any over-the-counter treatments for nail fungus? |
|  Onychomycosis is a fungal infection of the fingernails or toenails that causes thickened and brittle nails. Over-the-counter treatments are available in the form of liquids, solutions, and creams. You apply these products directly to the nail and surrounding skin. Common topical antifungals include clotrimazole (brand name Lotrimin AF), miconazole (Micatin) and terbinafine (Lamisil). Because they do not penetrate the nail, they work best in infections of the skin or nail surface, as in athlete’s foot.
