 | What are the side effects of Norvasc? |
|  Norvasc (generic name amlodipine) is a prescription drug used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), angina (chest pain), and other cardiovascular conditions. Norvasc belongs to the group of drugs called calcium channel blockers. They work by relaxing the blood vessels. Other calcium channel blockers include Plendil (felodipine) and nifedipine (Procardia, Adalat)The most common side effects of Norvasc are headache and swelling of the legs or ankles. Many people become dizzy and lightheaded when they first start taking Norvasc, but these side effects generally go away after about a week. Rare side effects include low blood pressure or abnormally slow heartbeat. Contact your doctor if Norvasc makes you feel extremely dizzy or weak or if you have difficulty breathing.
