Chemical Name: IPRATROPIUM BROMIDE (i-pra-TROE-pee-um BROE-mide)
Atrovent 0.06% Solution is an anticholinergic used to treat a runny nose caused by allergies or a cold. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Atrovent 0.06% Solution. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking anticholinergic medicines (eg, benztropine, diphenhydramine). DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions, including enlargement of the prostate, asthma, urinary blockage or retention, narrow-angle glaucoma or a risk for developing it, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions about taking Atrovent 0.06% Solution.
Follow the directions for using Atrovent 0.06% Solution provided by your doctor. Atrovent 0.06% Solution is used in the nose. Atrovent 0.06% Solution comes with a patient information leaflet. Read it carefully. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Atrovent 0.06% Solution. You will need to prime the pump before the first use of each new container. To do this, pump the sprayer 7 times. To pump the sprayer, hold the bottle with your thumb at the base and your index and middle fingers on the white shoulder area and press your thumb firmly and quickly against the bottle. If you do not use Atrovent 0.06% Solution for more than 24 hours, re-prime by pumping twice before using it again. If you do not use Atrovent 0.06% Solution for more than 7 days, re-prime by pumping 7 times again before use. TO USE ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION, blow your nose to clear your nostrils. Close 1 nostril with your finger against the side of the nose. Insert the nasal tip into the other nostril and point the tip toward the back and outer side of the nose. Pump the sprayer into your nose, sniff deeply, breathe out through your mouth, and remove the spray bottle from your nose. After removing the bottle, tilt your head backwards for a few seconds to let the spray spread over the back of the nose. Replace the plastic dust cap after each use. IF THE NASAL TIP BECOMES CLOGGED, remove the plastic dust cap and safety clip. Hold the nasal tip under running warm tap water for about a minute. Dry the nasal tip, re-prime the nasal spray pump, and replace the dust cap and safety clip. STORE ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C), away from heat, moisture, and light. KEEP ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION out of the reach of children and away from pets. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do NOT use 2 doses at once.
DO NOT USE ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to any ingredient in this product, or to atropine or similar medicines. DO NOT EXCEED THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use Atrovent 0.06% Solution for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Atrovent 0.06% Solution. Atrovent 0.06% Solution may cause dizziness. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase this effect. To prevent dizziness, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Atrovent 0.06% Solution. Using Atrovent 0.06% Solution alone, along with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Avoid getting Atrovent 0.06% Solution in your eyes. IF YOU GET ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION IN YOUR EYE, flush your eye immediately with cool tap water. Temporary blurring of vision, worsening of narrow-angle glaucoma, or eye pain may result if the solution comes into direct contact with the eyes. Contact your doctor if you notice these symptoms. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: If you become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Atrovent 0.06% Solution during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Atrovent 0.06% Solution, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Atrovent 0.06% Solution include dry nose or nose irritation, mild nosebleed, nausea, or sore throat. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blurred vision, difficulty urinating, eye pain, fast heartbeat, hoarseness, severe constipation, severe or recurrent nosebleeds, severe nasal dryness, sinus infection, or visual halos or colored rings. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Atrovent 0.06% Solution is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. DO NOT SHARE ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION for other health conditions. IF YOU WILL BE USING ATROVENT 0.06% SOLUTION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
