I've been smothering my 17 mo old son in this stuff to go to the pool and the beach this summer and especially with his white hair people are amazed at how little sun exposure he seems to have gotten. He's still VERY pale. We live at 6500 ft. elevation so the sun is brutal up here. The lotion takes a little extra rubbing, but it's not greasy and has NO odor at all. I love it and plan to buy another tube soon.

Please be cautious if your child has eczema, sensitive skin, or allergies in general. My son broke out in a horrible red, hot, rash (very much like sunburn) as well as hives all over his body last weekend after applying this sunblock. It was extremely uncomfortable to say the least, and by the next day his eyes were almost swollen shut. After taking him to the doctor and doing extensive research online about sunscreen allergies, I have discovered that all 5 active ingredients are chemicals known to cause severe reactions (avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, octocrylene and oxybenzone). It is far safer to use the physical barrier sunscreens (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) than the chemical ones. And no matter what product you use, first apply a small amount both in and out of the sun to fully test. Some people react to these chemicals, only in combination with exposure to the sun, called photochemical reaction. Also, it can take more than 24 hours for a reaction to appear. I am disappointed with Aveeno (J&J)to advertise a product as "safe as water", when it actually consists of chemicals which are knwon to cause severe reactions in some people! Please be careful. There are plenty of people who don't have any adverse reactions, but there are plenty of people who do!

Okay product, beware though

Comments about Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 55, 4 oz:

Our son has very sensitive skin with outbreaks of eczema. This is super gentle on his skin but unfortunately, it causes horrible irritation for his eyes. I'm sure that's common with most sunscreens but this seemed especially bad. He cried for an hour and had red, swollen eyes for hours afterward. Since it's not realistic to completely prevent him from rubbing his eyes, we'll be looking for an alternative.

Do not use on children

Comments about Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 55, 4 oz:

This lotion is the worst. My daughter was crying all day about how her eyes were burning her. She was so swollen and teary all day - even after her bath, where I washed her eyes with plain water. She also had a rash on her face.

Comments about Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 55, 4 oz:

My roommate got this from her dermatologist friend. I am a FAIR skinned girl, and thought many applications of this for my sensitive skin would work, but 55 is not high enough, and it kept washing off in the ocean no matter how long I waited for it to soak in (at least 20 min) Not to mention when it was working, I ended up tanning. I think this works best for what it is supposed to be, for small children playing in a wading pool in the shade. But if you're like me living in NYC, it's great for everyday use in the city. I've used ROC spf 60 during a heat wave in Paris, and that stayed on my skin much better, regardless of how much I was sweating.

Watch out!

Comments about Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 55, 4 oz:

This product says nothing about not irritating the eyes, but I bought it and used it on my 11 month baby girl. Of course, the minute I put it on her arms and hands, she rubbed her eyes and immediately started screaming. I'm assuming that's because it burned her eyes. Ugh. Still looking for one that won't cause her to cry! Perhaps Neutrogena!

Watch for Skin Reaction

Comments about Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion, SPF 55, 4 oz:

My two boys (ages 10 and 1) both had issues with this product -- just as Heather described below. I bought this brand of sunscreen because Aveeno has a reputation of being one of the best for your skin. This was absolutely not the case for my two boys. The moment they both went outside they developed a red prickly rash and some hives. In addition, with my oldest son, his faced swelled to the point where his cheeks looked like he had the mumps. In my baby, his eyes swelled and his nose began running. The moment I washed the the sunscreen off, the reaction began to subside. I also gave Benadryl to help with the rash and runny nose.

Please be cautious with this sunscreen. I've obviously used sunscreen on my oldest child for many years and this sort of reaction has never occurred. This is the first time, however, that we've used Aveeno Baby 55 and I will never use it again. I am also going to contact the company about this.

I wish I would have known to test this product on a small patch of skin. I had never even heard of this type of reaction that Heather described below, but she has explained exactly what happened to my kids. Please be cautious with your children on this product. It is definitely not the safest sunscreen for their skin, despite the Aveeno reputation.

The package changed, very lovely purple color. Love it. But the product is a little oily, thick, not as good as expected. The sunblock effect is perfect, my kid is still that skin color after one day play out in the sun. Maybe I will try to use liquid next time.

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion

           – Everyone of all ages needs sun protection but it's even more important that babies be protected from the sun's damaging rays. Sun exposure is cumulative meaning it adds up over a lifetime. Sun damage your baby gets today could mean an increased risk of skin cancer later in life. At the same time, babies have skin that's more easily irritated by the ingredients in sunscreen products. They need sun protection that won't harm their delicate skin but will still protect them from the sun's rays. This is where Aveeno comes in.

          Sun Protection for Babies

Aveeno Baby Continuous Protection Sunscreen Lotion is made for the special needs of a baby. This product offers high-level sun protection (SPF of 55) and blocks UVA and UVB rays, both of which are damaging to the skin. To help protect baby's skin from the sun, this sunscreen harnesses the power of a patented process called active photobarrier complex. This complex makes the product more stable in sunlight and maximizes the amount of time your baby's skin is protected from the sun. In this unique product, active photobarrier protection is combined with natural oatmeal to soothe and soften your baby's skin. Oatmeal has natural anti-inflammatory properties that help to reduce irritation. Sunscreen is appropriate for babies six months of age and older. If your baby is younger, consult with your child's pediatrician about sun protection and what's best for your baby. Continuous protection sunscreen combined with protective clothing helps to reduce a baby's risk of sun damage when they're outside. Make sure they're protected.
