The day after, I applied it, wondering if it was the orange day, but it stayed natural and I went darker. The third day it starts getting orange, so I let pass a few days before another aplication. It smells good when you apply but after it sets it starts giving you the scent but not very strong. One bad thing it's that definitely it has to be put with gloves,since I washed my hands several times after aplication and they still stained. I did a heavier application the next day and liked the color. However, if I applied 2 days in a row, I had obvious streaks. So every other day worked better. I stopped using for a few days and there were definite streaks as it faded. No bad smell at all. I had no problem with knees and ankles being too dark, just my inability to apply evenly on my ankles. You really need to use it more than one day in a row to achieve more color. The only negative thing about it was the smell. It smells fine when you first apply it .. but after 30 minutes it stinks. I've tried several brands of self-tanners and they all have an awful smell. This one smells great! I found that it also does a better job of an even tan. I use self-tanner on my legs in the summer to even up with my face and arms. It works in a couple of days without sun and looks very natural. No need to try any others, I found the best. Pros

Lots of reviewers are able to tan and use this product to enhance a tan but I am a very fair redhead (as white as it gets), never tan, always burn and avoid the sun all the time. But, this looks great and enables me to wear shorts, skirts, sundresses without being self-conscious about either pasty white skin OR fake looking tan. One note: it takes a long time to develop on me so don't be disappointed if it looks like nothing is happening at first. Apply after a morning shower and then be patient -- by that night you will have the light, natural color you want. The best part is that this lasts longer than most other self-tanners I have tried (and that is a lot!). I also wish they would come out with a better bottle: this one is small and hard to get the product out of when it is nearly empty. And, since it works so well, you will be going through a lot of it during the summer. I think I have purchased about six bottles since June. Overall, a great sunless tanner and it is what fair skinned people (who aren't interested in really dark) have been looking for! Pros
