I tend to stick with more natural, less chemical sunscreens but for my children's schools & camps they require something that is easy to apply (one that that goes on quickly & the teacher doesn't have to rub in - this is used for the body and a sunscreen stick is used for the face). So for that purpose, we have been using this one for the past two years and have been happy with it. It doesn't contain any oxybenzone, provides adequate protection, dries quickly, and has never caused irritation to their skin (which tends to be sensitive).
My two yr old started developing a rash all over his body about an hour after I sprayed this on him for the first time. I guess I'll be sticking with baby blanket block.
I use this for my son who is now 2 but we've been using it 1 1/2 years. I do not use it on his face because he can't reliably follow directions about closing his eyes and mouth. For his face I use banana boat cream or the stick sunscreen, especially around his eyes. He likes it and he did not like the Hawaiian Tropic similar spray that I we tried. For myself, I usually use the Neutrogena continuous spray which I also like. No burns/rashes/complains on this one!
I got this for my baby thinking it would be great, since it would be much easier to rub into his skin, which it is, however, that doesn't outweigh the cons for me - the smell has a horrible chemical smell, and, it is not tear-free. After putting it on his face, he started crying, and his eyes were all red. This might work better for older children, if you're okay with the smell, but, I would not recomend for babies.
The only reason I gave this product two stars is because it didn't sting my sensitive skin. Unfortunately, after using the product twice, the spray dispenser stopped working. I attempted to contact Banana Boat's customer service, but they only have a 1-800-number to call. I will go back to bullfrog from now on.
This is fantastic sunscreen. It sprays on in an even mist and without color, and it really works. I ask my kids to turn their faces away as I spray their arms as to lessen the likelihood of inhalation of the spray.
I bought this sunscreen for myself because I have sensitive skin. This product is alcohol-free, which is good. However it does have silicone in it, so it does leave a sheen on the skin. Although this product has no added fragrance, it does have that typical chemical sunscreen smell. I would be very concerned about a baby inhaling the sunscreen ingredients. An adult or child would be able to hold their breath during application, but a baby would not. If you are using this for your baby, I would recommend spraying it into your hand first, then applying to baby's skin. Overall, I think this is a good product.
Shake well before use. Apply generously and evenly to all areas 15 minutes before sun exposure. Spray on hands to apply to face, use in well-ventilated area. Reapply at frequent intervals and after swimming or towel drying. Ask a doctor before use on children under six months of age.
Sun Alert: Limiting sun exposure, wearing protective clothing and using sunscreens may reduce the risks of skin aging, skin cancer and other harmful effects of the sun.
