was excited to find a "big name" brand with physical sunscreens instead of chemical, but had 2 big negatives. I called them to ask if they use nano-particles, and they couldn't answer that question. I also got a rash. Twice. (I gave it a second chance months later in case the first time was a coincidence)
During my first pregnancy I developed a sunscreen sensitivity, I used to wear it daily (Olay), but now it causes breakouts on my face that last 10 days. I tried lots of "sensitive" products, and this is the only sunscreen I've found that doesn't give me a breakout. It's thick, but I could use it daily in the summer and be fine. My skin tends to lean toward dry anyway. And I feel good using it on my kids as well, no oxybenzone.
My daughter is allergic to the chemicals in other sunscreens. Banana Boat has made this all natural = no allergic reaction for her!It is reasonably priced and easier to find than other all-natural sunscreens. It is fairly easy to rub around, not at all gooey. It still eaves a whitish cast on her skin, but not as bad as many other all natural sunscreens. Whitish cast or sunburn - I 'll take the whitish cast.
It's difficult to find mainstream sunscreen that has titanium dioxide/zinc oxide, not "chemical" sunscreen ingredients, and that also doesn't have parabens and other nasty stuff. All "physical" sunscreens are going to need more rubbing in, but this one isn't bad. It works well, and I'm glad Banana Boat finally figured out that people want a sunscreen option without endocrine disruptors. Do make sure it's reapplied after a lot of sweating, swimming, or towel drying.
This sunscreen is way too thick and greasy. I can't rub it in fast enough on my arm so a part of my shoulder burned when I went hiking. It also leaves a white cast on my skin. I think it must be waterproof because it literally sits on my skin and forms this white barrier.
Apply generously and evenly to all areas 15 minutes before sun exposure. Massage in for a clear finish. Reapply at frequent intervals and after swimming or towel drying. Ask a doctor before use on children under six months of age.
