An Essential for Blow Drying Curls
A diffuser is an attachment that is fitted onto the nozzle of a hair dryer
. Many professional hairstylists recommend diffuser attachments to clients with curly or wavy tresses. Diffusers spread the hot air produced by blow dryers outward, making the blowing power less intense. As a result, curl patterns are less likely to become disrupted while you dry. By distributing the hot air over a wider section of the tresses, diffusers also make curly locks less likely to become frizzy.
Types of Diffusers
There are two main types of diffusers: finger diffusers and grill diffusers. A grill diffuser has a plastic or metal grill that covers its top, while finger diffusers have bowl-shaped tops that are studded with plastic pegs. You can use a hair dryer with a grill diffuser just like a conventional hair dryer, making it a simple solution for blow-drying curls. Finger diffusers are used a little differently. When you blow-dry with one, you place a section of your hair inside of the bowl. The fingers on the diffuser help to separate and lift curls while you dry to add volume and enhance curl patterns. Some diffusers are two-in-one models that can be used with or without a grill.
Getting the Right Diffuser Attachment
As you shop for a diffuser for your hair dryer, it's important to carefully read the product descriptions. Some diffusers will only fit hair dryers made by a certain brand or a select number of models produced by a certain brand. Other diffusers will work with a wide variety of dryers.
