Some lice treatment shampoos contain two ingredients, pyrethrin and piperonyl butoxide. These work together to kill lice. Products containing this combination are often sold with nit combs you use to remove tiny lice eggs called nits. Other kits contain these items plus a spray that kills lice in your home to keep the problem from spreading. When choosing a product to treat lice, read the description carefully. Some products are appropriate only for children age two and up.
Natural Lice Treatment
Naturally, you're concerned about what goes on your baby's scalp. If you prefer a more natural approach, discover shampoos and treatments made with essential oils and plant-based ingredients that are safe and free of unhealthy pesticides. The ingredients may work in synergy to kill lice and their eggs without exposing your baby to harmful chemicals. At this time, it’s not known if these natural ingredients are effective for lice.
How to Prevent Spread of Lice
With lice being so easy to transmit, prevention is the key for any family. Teach your kids not to share personal items that touch the head and to avoid head-to head contact with other children. Shampoo and conditioning treatments with a special blend of essential oils are available that may help to repel lice but more research is needed to prove their effectiveness.
Be sure to talk to your doctor if you suspect your child has lice. He or she can recommend a plan for treating the lice and preventing an infestation in your home.
