Advantages of Natural Skin Care
While there aren't hard and fast rules regulating the use of the term "natural" to describe skin care products, manufacturers typically strive to ensure that their natural formulas substitute botanical ingredients for some (if not all) of the chemicals found in many traditional products.
Many of these botanicals--such as aloe vera, oatmeal, chamomile, and glycerin--have been proven to help soothe skin, prevent irritation, and promote moisture. Certain manufacturers will promise that their natural formulas don't contain ingredients like sulfates, phthalates, artificial dyes, and/or parabens. Many brands also guarantee that their products are not tested on animals.
Products for Cleansing, Moisturizing, and Shaving
You'll find a number of men's cleansers and moisturizers that are designed to get rid of dirt and oil from skin and then keep it hydrated. Lotions can also soothe irritated skin and promote healing of dry patches.
For shaving, natural skin care products include creams, gels, and oils. These formulas help provide a barrier between the razor blade and your skin. This may decrease your chances of suffering from razor burn, nicks, and cuts.
Aftershave products can also moisturize skin and help soothe irritation by speeding the healing of small abrasions.
Fighting Blemishes with Natural Products
Many people interested in a green lifestyle are wary of the chemical acne treatments that are approved by the FDA. A number of botanical products may be able to help control blemishes by unclogging pores and exfoliating skin. Others contain ingredients like tea tree oil, which has natural antiseptic properties that can help kill acne-causing bacteria. Some products will combine natural components with popular active ingredients like salicylic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide for ultimate efficacy. back to top »
