The Simple Way to Curl
Spring curling irons are the easiest type of curling iron to use. Typically, stylists recommend them for people who are new to using curling irons, have difficulty curling their hair or need a fast, simple solution for creating curls and waves. A spring curling iron is convenient because its barrel is outfitted with a spring-loaded clamp. When you push down on a lever with your thumb, the clamp opens, allowing you to slide the end of a section of hair between it and the barrel. When you release the thumb lever, the clamp closes and keeps hold of the strand. You can then quickly wind your hair around the barrel of the curling iron without it coming loose.
Spring Models in Every Size
Because spring curling irons are so simple to use, they are very popular. Manufacturers make them in a variety of sizes to meet the high demand. This means that you're sure to find a spring curling iron that is perfectly sized for your hairstyle. If you have short hair, look for spring curling irons with barrels that are less than 1 inch wide. For medium length hair, you can choose a barrel under 1 inch wide for tight spiral curls or one that is 1 inch wide or slightly larger to make looser curls. Long hair will get tight curls from a 1-inch barrel and looser curls from barrels over 1 inch in width. To turn ends under on a medium or long hairstyle, select a large barrel curling iron. People with coarse or thick hair may need a slightly larger curling iron to get great results.
