Heating pads helped at night, so she wanted something she could wear during the day when she was teaching her high school classes. She tried the ThermaCare heat wrap for backs, but it didn't generate enough heat to be effective because the wrap insulated the skin too much from the two gel packs. She then tried the BenGay wrap, which adhered directly to the skin. The pad holds very securely on the back and is easily removed. It's about as thick as a flannel shirt, so it fit easily under her clothes and provided great relief during the day. She loved it so much, she wanted me to write a review and tell other people about it. Her back pain went away about three days after using the pads. First of all, it was very hard to get them to stick. They kept rolling down and my bra strap helped a little, but I had to wear a very tight t-shirt to keep them in place. Secondly, they did nothing for my pain except distract me from it for maybe a half an hour because of the tingling/cool sensation when I first put them on. They never really felt "warm", and the feeling they did provide only lasted a couple of hours, nowhere near the 8 hours they claim. Throughout the day, I would occasionally notice a "stinging" or itching sensation, but that was about it. I tried 2 patches in all, but after removal of the 2nd one, there was a red, scaly, rectangular rash on my back that lasted for several days, so I will not be using these again. I know they worked well for others, I just wish they had worked for me. By Keith from Broad Brook, CT Comments about BenGay Ultra Strength Pain Relieving Patch, Large for Back to Hip, 4 ea: I have arthritis in my knees and this works better than anything else I have tried. When you first put the patch on it is cool but that quickly goes away. As far as heat goes, the more times I have used the patch, the less heat I feel, but it still takes the pain away. They stick well if your skin is clean and dry. For me they easily last 8 hours. (1 of 1 customers found this review helpful) Was this review helpful? Comments about BenGay Ultra Strength Pain Relieving Patch, Large for Back to Hip, 4 ea: I don't know how Bengay can describe this product as providing "deep penetrating heat". All I felt was the cool menthol that I feel when I've used the cream. Since it is not at all as described I can only give it 1 star. If you want cold (which is what this is) save your money and use ice. If you want to move around, use a menthol cream since these patches last no where near 8 hours. Comments about BenGay Ultra Strength Pain Relieving Patch, Large for Back to Hip, 4 ea: I didn't know these should last for 8 hours. They last for about two hours for me. I never take any oral pain meds because back pain is a natural part of my life. I get very bad back pain (I had a horseback ridding accident years ago that left a few lumbars compressed) often enough. Nevertheless, I still find some relief with these but not enough to take the pain away in the next few days to come. To me, they smell just as strong as using the Bengay cream. I will give this four stars only because I don't know of any better product, but at the same time I wish it would work much better. Was this review helpful? By Susan from Cedar Rapids, IA Comments about BenGay Ultra Strength Pain Relieving Patch, Large for Back to Hip, 4 ea: This is the most pain relieving product I have used for the lower back. The only drawback is that it has that "Bengay" odor that is hard to conceal while you are wearing it. Was this review helpful? I have a lot of pain in my hips and back, and I don't like the creams, so I decided to try these patches. They're very cold when first applied, but the heat (and relief) is almost immediate. They have a much milder odor than any of the creams I've tried, they're very easy to apply, and they last at least 8 hours. I highly recommend this product. Was this review helpful?
