Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution is an interferon used to treat certain types of multiple sclerosis (MS). It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicine that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION if you are also taking another medicine that contains interferon beta-1b. DO NOT START OR STOP any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Inform your doctor of any other medical conditions including a history of liver problems, thyroid problems, blood problems (eg, anemia, easy bleeding or bruising), bone marrow problems, seizures, mood or mental problems (eg, depression), suicidal thoughts or behaviors, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution.
Follow the directions for using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution provided by your doctor. Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution comes with a MEDICATION GUIDE approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Read it carefully each time you refill Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist any questions that you may have about Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution is usually administered as an injection at your doctor's office, hospital, or clinic. IF YOU ARE USING BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION AT HOME, a healthcare professional will provide detailed instructions for its appropriate use. Ask them any questions that you may have about your medicine or giving injections. Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution must be mixed before use. If the medicine contains particles after mixing, is discolored, or if the vial is cracked or damaged in any way, do not use it. GENTLY SWIRL Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution when mixing it. DO NOT SHAKE. WHEN DRAWING A DOSE INTO A SYRINGE, be sure to follow the procedure demonstrated to you to prevent contamination of the vial, syringe, or medicine. Never touch the rubber stopper of the vial or the needle of the syringe with your fingers. CAREFULLY CHECK that you have drawn the correct dose before administration. USE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION immediately after mixing it, if possible. USE A DIFFERENT INJECTION SITE each time you inject. Do not use the same injection site repeatedly. Do not make an injection into skin that is irritated, red, bruised, infected, or scarred in any way. If you experience a break in the skin, blue-black discoloration of the skin, or fluid drainage from the injection site, contact your health care provider at once before continuing use of Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. STORE UNMIXED MEDICINE at room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C), away from heat and light. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store mixed medicine in the refrigerator and use within 3 hours of mixing. Do not freeze. KEEP BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION out of the reach of children and away from pets. Use Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution regularly to receive the most benefit from it. Using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution at the same time every other day will help you to remember. CONTINUE TO USE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION, use it as soon as you remember. Your next injection should be given about 48 hours after that. Do not use 2 doses at once. DO NOT USE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION ON TWO CONSECTUIVE DAYS. Check with your doctor if you are unsure what to do if you miss a dose.
DO NOT TAKE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION if you have had an allergic reaction to it, to any other interferon beta, to human albumin, or if you are allergic to any ingredient in this product. DO NOT CHANGE THE RECOMMENDED DOSE or use Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution for longer than prescribed without checking with your doctor. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including liver function, thyroid function, blood counts and platelet counts may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. BEFORE YOU HAVE ANY MEDICAL OR DENTAL TREATMENTS, EMERGENCY CARE, OR SURGERY, tell the doctor or dentist that you are using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. SOME PATIENTS BECOME depressed or suicidal while taking Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. If you begin to feel depressed or suicidal, contact your doctor immediately. BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION CONTAINS ALBUMIN, which comes from human blood. There is an extremely rare risk of developing a viral disease, or a central nervous system disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. No cases of viral disease or Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease from albumin have been identified. BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION MAY LOWER YOUR RESISTANCE TO INFECTION. Prevent infection by avoiding contact with people with colds or other infections. Do not touch your eyes or the inside of your nose unless you have thoroughly washed your hands first. BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION COMMONLY CAUSES FLU-LIKE SYMPTOMS (eg, fever, chills, sweating, tiredness, muscle aches). Talk to your doctor about whether you should take a nonprescription medicine for pain or fever reduction before or after taking Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution. BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION MAY REDUCE THE NUMBER OF BLOOD CELLS THAT ARE NEEDED FOR CLOTTING. To prevent bleeding, avoid situations where bruising or injury may occur. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION MAY CAUSE HARM to the human fetus. IF YOU PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION IS EXCRETED in breast milk. IF YOU ARE OR WILL BE BREAST-FEEDING while you are using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while using Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution include decreased sexual ability; flu-like symptoms (eg, low-grade fever, chills, general body discomfort; unusual sweating); frequent urination; headache; joint pain; muscle pain or weakness; mild pain, swelling, or redness at the injection site; stomach upset; trouble sleeping; unusual spotting or menstrual bleeding; or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience blue-black discoloration, skin breakdown, oozing, or persistent pain or swelling around the injection site; chest pain; decreased coordination; feeling cold or hot all the time; mood or mental changes (eg, depression, anxiety, nervousness, severe or persistent trouble sleeping); muscle stiffness; seizures; severe or persistent headache or dizziness; shortness of breath; suicidal thoughts or behaviors; swelling of the hands, ankles, or feet; swollen lymph nodes; symptoms of infection (eg, severe or persistent fever, chills, sore throat); symptoms of liver problems (eg, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, right-sided stomach pain); unusual weight gain or loss; or unusual bruising or bleeding. AN ALLERGIC REACTION to Betaseron 14 0.3mg Solution is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; tightness in the chest; or swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue. DO NOT SHARE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION for other health conditions. DO NOT reuse needles, syringes, or other materials. Dispose of properly after use. Ask your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist to explain local regulations for selecting an appropriate container and properly disposing of the container when it is full. IF YOU WILL BE USING BETASERON 14 0.3mg SOLUTION FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, be sure to obtain necessary refills before your supply runs out.
