I love that these bags are biodegradable! We use them primarily to put our dirty cat litter in. I mention this for two reasons: the cat litter itself is biodegradable (Mews Paper) so that is a plus to have both break down easily; and secondly because it will give you an idea of the weight they hold since we empty up to 6 litter boxes into one bag (yes, we are those kinds of cat people ; ), which is quite heavy.

I don't really know if I would recommend these for any trash with sharp edges, however. They do seem rather thin and may be prone to puncture. But I have not tried them with our standard trash so I cannot be certain.

Despite this, I would recommend them. We also use the smaller sizes for our compost (you just throw the whole bag in the compost, which is great, and it breaks down fine). We also use the smaller sizes in our bathroom trash bins and that works great for us.

I bought these to use for cat litter waste, which I then put in the kitchen trash. I had been using plastic grocery-store bags, which I felt guilty about. We use reusable bags when we go to the grocery store, so I wanted to find a better solution for the cat waste.

That these are biodegradable and compostable is great. I'm not sure if they will biodegrade so easily in a landfill if they're not exposed to oxygen; i.e. if they're buried. BUT, they're better than using plastic.

The one thing that bothers me is that they're produced in Norway. That means that they have to be shipped all the way to the US. This might negate their environmental bonus. I don't have the resources to calculate the benefit compared to the impact. I would love to find a similar product that is produced closer to home.

    BioBags for compost bins

Comments about BioBag Food Waste Bio Bags, 3 Gallon, 25 ea:

I use this product in a compost bin, not because I compost, but because my community has started a food composting program; this waste is picked up weekly with my other recycling. Although I eat primarily fruit and veggies, I am single, and cannot fill these bags up fast enough... they start to decompose too quickly and become wet and slimy. Then they sit in my recycling bin until pick-up... YUCK. I do not recommend this product unless you do your own composting in your own yard.

Comments about BioBag Food Waste Bio Bags, 3 Gallon, 25 ea:

These bags are relatively expensive, but they do the job for lining the food waste crock in the kitchen. They are biodegradable so can go in the city-collected food composting bin. If juice from fruit or veggies accumulates in the bag for a few days, it will weaken the bag and cause it to disintegrate in the crock. That's both an advantage and disadvantage of using biodegradable bags.

I watched a movie "bag it", and I noticed that how much plastic waste we create, and they will remain on earth for 1000s of years. Then I decided not to accept shopping plastic bags, and I use my reusable bags. I was using plastic bags as trash bags, but now I don't get them, and I have to find a green substitute. I find these 100% biodegradable bags which meets my needs.
Tip: It may start to break down in 3-7 days, depending how much liquid your trash has. I usually change them in 3-5 days.

These bags work great in my kitchen compost pail. I've learned to take the pail to our garden compost before lifting the bag out. Juice from fruit and veges in bag sometimes start decomposing the bag.

I cannot test if the bags are truly bio degenerable, which would be the main purpose for most people to buy them. Besides that, the bags work well. They are sturdy. I had to through a lot of things out last night and was pleased to see that the bag hold up well. It felt a bit sticky when I tried to pull it out from the garbage can but I have no complaint.

I got these one time because EcoSafe bags were out of stock. I was glad for the chance to compare, but I hope EcoSafe never runs out again, because they work much better. BioBags start leaking much faster than what I was used to. I use these bags for wet trash that I don't want rotting in my main trash can for a week. But they're still usually in my kitchen for up to 3 days, so I need something fairly stable.

                    Try EcoSafe instead!

I use Bio Bags for kitchen waste that will be composted. I needed a size that would accommodate a frequent disposal of food (to the compost outside) and this size is perfect!
I have not yet seen a bag decvompose but I just got them a started using them 2 weeks ago.

We've used these bags for a long time for collecting compost indoors. They hold just the right amount before needing to take it outside. Anymore, and it would probably start stinking. They completely decompose in the compost pile. I've never had an issue with the bags as far as that goes.

The only complaint that I have is that they sometimes rip when I'm opening a bag to put it in the bin. Maybe I'm too agressive.
