I think I must have tried all the "green" alternatives for automatic dishwashing detergent, and this one definitely cleans the best. The "free and clear" version is great if you need the utmost in "safe" products for your health, but I prefer and can tolerate the light, natural fragrance of the one with grapefruit peel and orange extract, and I think it cleans a little better as well. With that said, it still misses the mark - it leaves a residue (and I use Seventh Generation rinse-aid and have a Bosch dishwasher) and sometimes some of the dishes just don't get clean. Also, the dishes need to be rinsed beforehand. Nevertheless, it's the best one I've found and will stick with it for the environmental and chemical-free benefits. I use vinegar as a rinse agent. I have had to use way less than recommended so it doesn't leave stuff behind, just hope it's cleaning my dishes just as good. Would not recommend! I dont always remove the food residues from dishes but it cleans them very well. When I remember I do add the Wave Jet Dishwashing Spot and Residue Remover as well. Pros

I fell in love with its great smell (no bleach!), but it works just as well as other detergents, with the added advantage you only need a tablespoon for each wash load. It is definitely more expensive than the big box of soap, but I do enjoy using it. Pros

This is the only dish powder that I have found that will get my dishes super clean, fully dissolve and do what it claims it will do. I use a little less than 1 T in each soap cup. I keep a small measuring shot glass inside the container to make this extra fast. Pros

I have used liquid Cascade for years and was pretty happy with it, but recently moved to a new home where the dishwasher takes only powdered detergent. I switched to powdered Cascade for awhile, but then noticed this brand advertised on drugstore.com. I am trying to gradually introduce more environmentally-friendly products into my lifestyle, so I decided to try this. It's hard to find products that are both safe for the environment and work as well as mainstream brands, so I didn't have very high expectations. Biokleen definitely surprised me, though! I have used it 3 times now, and it is definitely outperforming Cascade. My dishes have less residue and my coffee cups are whiter. I think I'm using a little more than they recommend, since I don't really measure. Other reviewers say using too much can result in etching and pitting over time, so I'm going to reduce the amount and see what happens. I also have been rinsing my dishes really well since I didn't trust Cascade, so I'm going to see what happens when I leave a little more food on them since the manufacturer claims it will still work well. Either way, I'm going to stick with this brand! I've already recommended it to my friends and family.
