It provides excellent hold but is soft once you scunch out the crunch. If you don't use a leave-in conditioner under it, it can be so hard that it needs a slight touch of some kind of cream or butter to allow you to break it up - that doesn't disturb the hold unless you use too much. It takes very little. Most of us use gels for hold so that we don't have to use hairsprays and their drying alcohols. We do this over any other styling products (curl creams, curl enhancers, etc.). For best results, always wait until curly hair is totally, absolutely bone dry before scrunching it out and keep your hands off of it until then (once you've initially scrunched it to get the curls going and done any needed arranging/clipping/"plopping" of it - with this or any other product(s). To do otherwise disrupts curl quality and causes frizz. And never, ever brush or comb curly hair except in the shower with conditioner on it as it can cause breakage, not to mention bushy, frizzy, unruly hair. This seems expensive, but it doesn't take much so it lasts a long time. For my below shoulder length hair, I use about a nickle-sized amount emulsified between my hands and then scrunched in over my other products (usually either Kinky Curly Curling Custard, Boot's pink curl cream, or in warm weather Curl Junkie Aloe Fix Gel - not good in winter because of its glycerin content - on my 3A thick, medium fine hair) VS Most Liked Negative Review Disgusting, sticky, ... Cons Best Uses
Comments about Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee, 6 fl oz: This is by far the best spiker and body holding gel I have used. It beats all the others because it is not greasy and you can go several days without washing because it can be respiked and revitalized with a misty water spray and finger styling. It can be used on towel-dryed hair without using a blow dryer for one look, blow dry it out and use it on dry hair for another look, or just use it for touch up body. It's a great product and as many products as I have bought with spiking in mind, this remains the best.

Cons Best Uses
Comments about Biosilk Rock Hard Gelee, 6 fl oz: Another 3A curly (strong waves/loose curls) here. I scrunch this in over a curl cream (and occasionally a leave-in conditioner as well), avoiding the roots. I don't touch my hair until dry and then SOTC (scrunch out the crunch). It gives we well-defined curls that are soft to the touch and hold up well: even in Chicago wind and snow. In the winter, after my hair has been blown around, I just smooth on a little water and then re-scrunch slightly and my hair is good as new, thanks to BRHG. I do the same thing for 2nd day hair with great results. And you really only need a little bit, so the bottle lasts a long time. Another plus: it's a truly year-round product. Because it's glycerin-free, you can use it in low dewpoints (below 35 F) without getting glycerin-related cold-weather frizz. I've used it over several curl creams including Curl Junkie (CCCC or SG), Komaza pudding, Ohm SHP, Innersense QCCC, and KCCC. I'm so glad that [...] is finally carrying it.
