Dry mouth is a common side-effect of many medications, including anti-depressants. Besides causing discomfort, dry mouth also can increase the amount of plaque on teeth, contributing to tooth decay. Biotene solves the problem. Regular toothpastes irritated my mouth, caused sores, burned my gums. Biotene simply does not. And the enzymes in Biotene really fight plaque. My teeth and gums have never been in better shape.

I really liked this toothpaste, and my mouth felt clean and refreshed, but there's a problem -- after initially loading the toothbrush with the toothpaste, there's none in your mouth. I guess I'm used to the white foam that regular toothpastes produce, because I would go back and try and make some kind of lather but it wouldn't foam. I guess this is something you'd have to get used to, but for the price and the amount I felt I had to use, I wouldn't buy this product.
I'm glad that someone makes this product, as regular toothpaste doesn't help with dry mouth. I had radiation therapy, have no saliva as a result, and this product both relieves the discomfort of dry mouth AND is good for oral health.
I frequently have dry mouth because of allergies, so having a toothpaste that helps stimulate saliva production is a real help at those times. Biotene also makes a mouthwash and other products that help. Water and some other toothpastes etc. can actually make my mouth feel dryer. I also find that anything with flavor will help stimulate saliva production between brushings, but only as long as it stays in my mouth, so something that melts slowly, and doesn't add sugar that can promote tooth decay, works best for me then.
I've been using this since 1997 for dry mouth following radiation for breast cancer. I used to use it twice daily until my dentist switched me to the high flouride toothpaste for night brushing. Although price is comparative $6.00 plus seemed a little pricy until I started on the prescription toothpaste which costs around $12.00 for a tube half the size. Biotene cleans my teeth, leaves my mouth moist and tasting fresh and I even brush my tongue.
This product works excellent. My wife was a non-stop chemotherapy recipient for 6 consecutive years. The chemo killed not only the bad, but also the good bacteria in her mouth. She would have problems as a result, and regular use of biotene toothpaste solved the problem(s). It was recommended by her Oncologist, Alexander in Pt Orange FL. My entire family uses it, and have since she first started with it in 2001. My youngest was 2 and oldest was 8 at the time. Ten years later, NONE of my children have cavities... I recommend this for families as well as specific-need medical patients. Also recommend the Biotene mouthwash, as well.
Am a diabetic plus have numerous allergies. The green gel did a great cleaning job, freshened breath much better.
When you were done using the GEL, your throat, mouth and gums felt cooled and really moist. The "paste" does not seem to freshen your mouth and makes mine dryer.
Adults and children 2 years of age and older: Brush teeth thoroughly, preferably after each meal or at least twice a day, or as directed by a dentist or doctor. To minimize swallowing for children under 6, use a pea-size amount and supervise brushing until good habits are established.
Children under 2 years ask a dentist or physician.
