I frequently get dry chapped lips in the winter and also any time it is especially windy. I usually apply the ointment at bedtime, and by morning I find a noticeable improvement to my lips! Although the camphor and menthol are soothing, I truly believe it is the allantoin in the product which works so well. On the drugstore.com site's ingredient list for the product, it continues to say that allantoin is the main active ingredient, however, when you purchase the product now, the packaging now has demoted allantoin to the "inactive" status. I'm sure this is just a regulatory requirement. I have tried numerous other similar-type products in the past, with similar ingredients but minus the allantoin, and they just didn't work. The allantoin, as you can gather, is key for me. As long as the product coninues to include it in its ingredient list, I'll continue to purchase it. My lips were dry and chapped at the time but constant use of it for a week and my lips were back to normal. I use this stuff when my lips are getting dry and when I have a cold sore (which is rare). Comments about Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment, .21 oz: I've been using this for the last 25 years or so and it is the only product I have found that can give me instant relief. Certainly it is good for chapped lips, but from time to time my lips get dry to the point that I need to keep licking them if I don't have my Blistex with me. Lately I have had a hard time finding it in stores and have resorted to other Blistex products like the waxy type that you rotate like a lipstick to make the product come out of the tube. Even though it is the same company, it doesn't do the job. I have also tried other brands lately with no satisfaction. Recently I started using plain old Vaseline (still nowhere near as good as Blistex). The other day my 22 year old asked me where the Blistex was and I told him I haven't been able to buy any in a store and thats when he managed to uncover a couple of tubes that were buried in his room. I put some on immediately and thought "ahh" this feels so good. Like I said, nothing compares to this. It's been a product that I've used daily for all these years and am glad to have found it is still available on this website. Thankyou! Pros

If it didn't work, I wouldn't have used it for all this time! When your lips hurt from chapping or just general dryness, this makes them feel better instantly. Instantly! One reviewer said that when they used it, their lips turned white. The ointment is white so if you put too much on, your lips will be white for a few seconds but just rub it in a bit more or blot and use less next time. You don't need to use tons just a small amount. Recommend! Pros

If I feel the hint of a cold sore/fever blister I apply immediately and constantly, the blister/sore never has a chance to progress. The smell is pleasant but the taste is not so great. Whenever we have chapped, dry lips I'm giving out Blistex ointment. My son doesn't like the feel or smell, but it works so well he asks me to put it on for him after he falls asleep. The next morning his lips are healed and soft again. It has never let me down. Pros

Yesterday morning I woke up with a deep, bleeding crack in my lips. Last night I put Blistex on, and this morning there was significant healing (I had been using a lip balm before with not much effect). Wow what a difference.
