I frequently get dry chapped lips in the winter and also any time it is especially windy. I usually apply the ointment at bedtime, and by morning I find a noticeable improvement to my lips! Although the camphor and menthol are soothing, I truly believe it is the allantoin in the product which works so well. On the drugstore.com site's ingredient list for the product, it continues to say that allantoin is the main active ingredient, however, when you purchase the product now, the packaging now has demoted allantoin to the "inactive" status. I'm sure this is just a regulatory requirement. I have tried numerous other similar-type products in the past, with similar ingredients but minus the allantoin, and they just didn't work. The allantoin, as you can gather, is key for me. As long as the product coninues to include it in its ingredient list, I'll continue to purchase it. I don't even remember why I originally started using it. I only know that if I DON'T use it, I start to feel like I'm going to lose my mind. Does that make it a good product? Probably not... giving it five stars is like a wine review written by a raging alcoholic... I will say that Blistex, compared with other lip balms, is not waxy, doesn't smell funky, and doesn't have any taste, so if I have to be addicted to a lip treatment, I'm glad it's Blistex. Pros

Comments about Blistex Medicated Lip Ointment, .21 oz: I had the most persistent cold-sore-like irritation in the corners of my mouth that were sore and unsightly (how'd it happen -- I have no idea). My grown daughter suggest I try Blistex. When I told her how thankful I was that she'd recommended this because it was so effective, she said "It ALWAYS works". The red soreness is all gone now, and it only took about a week. The relief was immediate however, and that was welcome too. Pros
