I bought the brand Blue Lizard on the recommendation of a friend and based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews on drugstore.com and other sites. The regular sunscreens are more expensive than what I would usually buy, but the face formula is actually even a little cheaper than the facial sunscreens I would buy, so it seemed like a no brainer to give it a try.

I was happy with the performance of the Blue Lizard face formula. I wore it daily and applied more when I went to the pool or would be outside for a long time. No problem! I liked that it is oil free, because my face has a tendency to break out. Don't want to add more oil to it if I can help it.

When planning for a trip to the Caribbean, I was most concerned about sun protection. I found another brand's facial formula had 15% zinc oxide, and so grabbed that for our trip, thinking it would provide more protection. My skin is very sun sensitive, and I'm also taking an allergy medicine that seems to exacerbate that.
After being in the intense sun of the Caribbean for less than an hour, my face was pink and freckled up terribly. I was terribly disappointed and afraid of what I would do for the rest of the trip! I had brought along the Blue Lizard formula and so i figured I would try that and see if it was any better, even though the sunscreen % claimed to be lower.

What a miracle! The Blue LIzard gave me NO SUN, NO FRECKLES, and NO BURN for the rest of the week. I reapplied several times a day due to swimming and sweating. I am totally hooked on this product. I cannot believe how much better my results were with it than the other national brand. I would have never thought. When I go to purchase sunscreen next summer, I have nearly convinced myself to splurge on the gallon size and not look back. I think it's worth it to pay a little more for the peace of mind of a product that will actually work and protect my sensitive skin from the sun and skin cancer.

They say most of the aging comes from unprotected exposure to the UV rays. Living in sunny California, sun protection became more of a priority, so I was willing to somewhat sacrifice my look. Even if my face turns white, I figured that maybe some face powder will help out with the color correction. But that turned out to be just half success.
To mention a couple of cons, the cream is greasy and for the reasonable amount of thickness that you should apply to get the adequate protection, your whole face turns white indeed. There is no way you can get away with this with the active ingredient being zinc oxide, but, still. After some rubbing in, this does get better but you still create that face/neck line as in using a foundation lighter than your skin tone. After using some face powder, I could manage to get a more natural skin tone (still lighter than my own but not as awkward) and the powder controlled the oiliness. So in the beginning of the day, everything was fine. But after a long day, I noticed some uneven white spots around my cheeks and discovered that the face powder wasn't able to hold so long. So in the end, the sunscreen didn't allow my makeup to stay put as much as I wished.

On the pro side, this did not make my skin break out. The product is unscented and vegetable oil-based and I think these were the main reasons why it was so kind on my combo/prone-to-product-allergies-and-break-outs skin.

Overall, not the best sunscreen, definitely not make-up friendly but there is a way of getting around this..maybe use more primer or foundation. I am just satisfied by the fact that this does block the other UV ray that is often missed in the major brand names. One could call this a good balance between the white extremes and just-claiming-and-not-really-protecting sunscreens.

Comments about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Daily Moisturizer Face, SPF 30+, 5 fl oz:

I use this as an everyday sunscreen for my face. The other BL version I've tried, Sensitive, has a much higher zinc/titanium content and takes a LOT of rubbing to get rid of the white cast. Sensitive is also a lot greasier. I use it on my arms.

Comments about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Daily Moisturizer Face, SPF 30+, 5 fl oz:

The formula proportions have changed slightly since my last bottle. I think this is now creamier and easier to rub in than my last batch. I do not wear this when I am having a dry skin day because it makes me look disgustingly flaky. Otherwise, I wear it daily under blush and powder foundation with great results. The cap could use a redesign because the product forms a "crust" at the opening which then gets on your face when you rub it in. Bits of dry white crust on the skin are not very attractive.

I have sensitive, fair skin and am not interested in getting a tan. This formula, with the significant amount of zinc oxide, provides great protection. It absorbs well into my skin, leaving it feeling soft and not at all oily. It protects me very well and is the only formula I use on my face now. Other high zinc formulas I have tried have been far too greasy, or leave too much of a white cast. This product, blended well (the texture is smooth and not at all difficult to work with), will leave only a very slight cast or none at all. Blue Lizard is a highly reliable brand of sunblock, try it!

Comments about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Daily Moisturizer Face, SPF 30+, 5 fl oz:

I use this sunscreen on my face everyday right after I apply my daily moisturiser; I don't trust it to be sufficiently moisturizing on its own, you see. Surprisingly, not only does it glide very smoothly on my skin, it feels more breatheable compared to the sunscreen of the same brand as the moisturizer I use.

I can see how it leaves a rather obvious white sheen on the skin after application. However, I was able to resolve that issue simply by rationing the amount I use; I just 'dot' around my face 5 times with the sunscreen---forehead, left and right cheeks, nose, and chin. Then again, my skin is very fair so I guess I was able to blend it easily.

Moreover, my boyfriend---the one who introduced me to this great product---says it takes 5 minutes for it to soak into the skin before the 'whiteness' would go away. On the brand website if you were to read it, the reason why this sunscreen is so effective is because it contains a large amount of zinc oxide (at least 8% I believe), which is also what makes your skin looks 'white'. So if you're to use it sparingly on your face, you're pretty much making it as effective as other brands of sunscreen on the market.

Overall, we think this sunscreen is a worthwhile investment for those who take suncare protection or skin healthcare seriously. Those Aussies sure know what they're doing with this! :)
