I bought the brand Blue Lizard on the recommendation of a friend and based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews on drugstore.com and other sites. The regular sunscreens are more expensive than what I would usually buy, but the face formula is actually even a little cheaper than the facial sunscreens I would buy, so it seemed like a no brainer to give it a try.

I was happy with the performance of the Blue Lizard face formula. I wore it daily and applied more when I went to the pool or would be outside for a long time. No problem! I liked that it is oil free, because my face has a tendency to break out. Don't want to add more oil to it if I can help it.

When planning for a trip to the Caribbean, I was most concerned about sun protection. I found another brand's facial formula had 15% zinc oxide, and so grabbed that for our trip, thinking it would provide more protection. My skin is very sun sensitive, and I'm also taking an allergy medicine that seems to exacerbate that.
After being in the intense sun of the Caribbean for less than an hour, my face was pink and freckled up terribly. I was terribly disappointed and afraid of what I would do for the rest of the trip! I had brought along the Blue Lizard formula and so i figured I would try that and see if it was any better, even though the sunscreen % claimed to be lower.

What a miracle! The Blue LIzard gave me NO SUN, NO FRECKLES, and NO BURN for the rest of the week. I reapplied several times a day due to swimming and sweating. I am totally hooked on this product. I cannot believe how much better my results were with it than the other national brand. I would have never thought. When I go to purchase sunscreen next summer, I have nearly convinced myself to splurge on the gallon size and not look back. I think it's worth it to pay a little more for the peace of mind of a product that will actually work and protect my sensitive skin from the sun and skin cancer.

They say most of the aging comes from unprotected exposure to the UV rays. Living in sunny California, sun protection became more of a priority, so I was willing to somewhat sacrifice my look. Even if my face turns white, I figured that maybe some face powder will help out with the color correction. But that turned out to be just half success.
To mention a couple of cons, the cream is greasy and for the reasonable amount of thickness that you should apply to get the adequate protection, your whole face turns white indeed. There is no way you can get away with this with the active ingredient being zinc oxide, but, still. After some rubbing in, this does get better but you still create that face/neck line as in using a foundation lighter than your skin tone. After using some face powder, I could manage to get a more natural skin tone (still lighter than my own but not as awkward) and the powder controlled the oiliness. So in the beginning of the day, everything was fine. But after a long day, I noticed some uneven white spots around my cheeks and discovered that the face powder wasn't able to hold so long. So in the end, the sunscreen didn't allow my makeup to stay put as much as I wished.

On the pro side, this did not make my skin break out. The product is unscented and vegetable oil-based and I think these were the main reasons why it was so kind on my combo/prone-to-product-allergies-and-break-outs skin.

Overall, not the best sunscreen, definitely not make-up friendly but there is a way of getting around this..maybe use more primer or foundation. I am just satisfied by the fact that this does block the other UV ray that is often missed in the major brand names. One could call this a good balance between the white extremes and just-claiming-and-not-really-protecting sunscreens.

I have oily, reactive skin and this sunblock is the only one that doesn't make me beakout, doesn't leave my face greasy or chalky white, and yet still works. This products absorbs quickly, moisturizes without any residue and protects my face from all sun induced effects including melasma.

This was recommended to me by a dermatologist. I love the sunblock, but if you are sweating, it stings the eyes pretty bad. It is not sweatproof and not waterproof.

My understanding is that sunscreens with zinc can give "white-face" effect unless it's micronized zinc which some worry can penetrate the skin easier to cause free-radical damage to cells (especially when exposed to UV light) unless it's dimethicone-coated microfine zinc of at least 8%. I also didn't want oxybenzone or PABA due to worries about it causing cancer also. I found a Australia dermatology website that recommended this product with these criteria. I love that it doesn't cause acne on my oily T-zone.I couldn't find this locally.

Don't be fooled by the #30. This product is the best sunscreen around. Good for everything, but especially good for tops of feet where the sand can easily remove other sunscreen products.

Comments about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Daily Moisturizer Face, SPF 30+, 5 fl oz:

I use this everyday under my makeup. I only wear a light mineral powder for foundation so it's nice to find a more substantial sunscreen that doesn't make my face oily. My face feels soft and matte after the sunscreen sinks in. I also like that the bottle turns blue when exposed to uv rays. It helped me realize times when rays were present that I normally wouldnt think about. (like the back seat of the car)

It is a little difficult to get it completely rubbed in and if you don't then your skin looks pale/white. I usually only have issues with this when using it on my arms or legs.

I use Blue Lizard when I surf, It has always given me great sun protection it goes on easy, stays on in the water all day, and never gets rubbed into my eye's. If you love being in the water, you will love Blue Lizard Sun Screen.
I have found it to be the best...period.
