Although I am always looking for a bargain, sunscreen is not an area I will compromise. My dermatologist recommended applying Blue Lizard sunscreen every 45 minutes while in the sun. I like the sensitive formula, as I have occular rosea, and the regular formula irritated the area around my eyes. I have no problems with the sensitive formula. This sunscreen is thick. When finished applying, you should see a white film. (This ensures you have applied enough product for protection.) The whiteness disappears fairly quickly. It's so important to buy sunscreen with both UVA and UVB protection. The cheaper sunscreens just don't offer as good protection.

Use on face, neck & other exposed skin for golf and tennis which equates to long hours in the sun. I am outdoors daily & use the product. However, it is very drying to the skin. My legs were parched after washing off and my facial skin became rough and unable to accept makeup well. Product must be re-applied frequently (ev 2 hours for me when I can feel my skin burning from the sun). Washing off is difficult and needs to scrubbed vigorously with washcloth; otherwise the skin continues to have a white cast to it. Disappointed it did not prevent darkening and blotchiness of my skin. Purchased this product as an alternative to chemical-based sunscreens (I break out in rashes). Am seeking other chemical-free alternatives.

I am amazed that this rubs well, no scent & no rashes. I have started using it on my face. This would be a test when we go for vacation in Cancun, Mexico (06/12).

Comments about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Sensitive, SPF 30+, Fragrance Free, 8.75 fl oz:

We recently went to Hawaii for vacation, and I bought this based on the EWG's recommendation that this doesn't have bad chemical ingredients and is effective protection from UVA/UVB rays. I was looking for sunscreens that have quality ingredients that will work and be nice to my skin.

I was pretty surprised when I first received this bottle. It was really small for the price. We used this bottle up between the two of us in 10 days worth of vacation. It's not waterproof which is a major bummer and kept me from going in the water as much as I would have otherwise. It's hard to rub in; it gets on my clothes and bathing suit if I'm not careful. As far as I can tell, it washes out of clothes OK - bathing suits are a bit more of a challenge, but I hate having white all over my darker clothes. It's inconvenient.

I got a fake tan to start me off, and the white coloring washed me out and made me look gray.

The other thing, I didn't get an ounce of color while on vacation. I'm OK with it, and god knows it's better than getting burned and only proves this stuff really works - who needs a sunburn? But I was a little bummed that I didn't have anything to show for my travels. I wondered if people at work even believed I was on vacation. I wish they would make this in 25+ SPF instead.

The worst part of it was it gave me incredibly dry skin and hives all on the insides of my arms and neck and collar bone before our vacation time was done; essentially the more sensitive, delicate skin. I have extremely sensitive skin, so this didn't surprise me. But I wondered if I applied it incorrectly? I was careful to reapply after some time lapse or if I got wet. I always showered before and afterward. Could it be I reapplied in the sun? Or let some time pass that one time after getting wet before putting more on? No, I think I will try different products. Rashes are never a good thing. It's just a way of your skin telling you to get this stuff off of you!
I can't recommend this product for people with sensitive skin.

This is the best for my kids who are allergic to chemical sunscreens around their eyes. It seems to last well but it does need to be re-applied after time. It does not leave the skin white but sinks in. There is a bit of a shine though. Great for kids, easy to apply.

Comments about Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, Sensitive, SPF 30+, Fragrance Free, 8.75 fl oz:

I had been taking the acne medication Accutane for 6 months and using a different brand of sunscreen for sun protection when I suddenly developed an allergy to one of the ingredients in that sunscreen. In a panic I called my dermatologist, who recommended Blue Lizard to me. I don't think I'll ever go to another sunscreen!

If you pile on the sunscreen like I do, it will leave a whitish film that doesn't go away for a few hours. I don't mind it much though, I'm more concerned about protecting my sensitive skin from the sun than I am about looking like a vampire! I sometimes feel like one anyway, with how sensitive I am to the sun at the moment, lol! It does make me feel a little greasy and it adds a sheen to your skin so I wouldn't recommend it for if you're looking for something matte. It also dries my skin out a little so I like to mix it with moisturizer before I put it on.

Most importantly to someone who has struggled with stubborn acne for years, this sunscreen did not break me out even after I finished my course of Accutane. This is the best sunscreen I've ever used, and I've been through brand after brand. Even after a long, sunny, sweaty day at Disney World, this stuff kept on protecting me. However, because it's so sweat- and water-resistant, it is REALLY hard to wash off so don't be surprised if it's still there well into the evening. Seeing the bottle turn blue is really cool too! :)

I bought this last summer at the recommendation of our pediatrician. In the summer - from the combination of sun and sunscreen and chlorine my daughter gets rashy all over. I tried all kinds of natural/non-irritating/baby sunscreens but nothing helped. When we switched to Blue Lizard- within a couple days the reaction stopped. I won't use anything else! It's expensive but one bottle lasted the whole summer with almost daily use (1 kid). My only complaint is that I would LOVE a spray version.

After researching the Environmental Working Group's sunscreen ratings I completely turned against most of the commonly-used, cheaper sunscreens options. Many contain chemicals that have been found to affect reproductive organs in children, alter cells, etc. Gross!!! Blue Lizard is one of the top rated sunscreens on the list, not containing those awful chemicals, and it's one of the cheaper & easier-found ones on the list.

I purchased the face and the sensitive at the same time. Love them both. This brand was recommended by my dermatologist after she removed squamous cell carcinoma from my chest. I feel protected now from further problems. I use this DAILY.

My family wears a lot of sun protective clothing, but we use Blue Lizard Sensitive for everthing we can't cover and it does a wonderful job protecting us from the sun. You do need to rub it in well and that takes a bit, but it is time well spent. We even use it on the face; nose and cheeks, those parts of your face that tend to burn easily. Best sunscreen we have found.

Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen Sport Zinc Oxide Formula

                       – When you're enjoying the outdoors, you need strong sunscreen to protect your skin from UVA and UVB rays. Applying and reapplying sunscreen can be a hassle, but you can't always trust that the product is durable enough to withstand sweat, water, and more. Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen Sport Zinc Oxide Formula is a highly durable and equally effective sunscreen that reduces the risk of sunburn and skin damage.

                      Serious Testing with Impressive Results

When Blue Lizard was designing this zinc oxide-based sunscreen, it tested the product in an intense environment: whirlpool water. Results showed that the product could withstand 240 minutes in this powerful water, far beyond the FDA's standard of 80 minutes in still water. These impressive results indicate just how powerful and effective this formula is against the sun.

                      Skin-Protecting Benefits

Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen Sport Zinc Oxide Formula is a high-protection, water-resistant sunscreen. Zinc oxide provides broad spectrum protection against UV rays in a gentle formula that is generally well-tolerated by even those with sensitive skin. More specifically, Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen uses Z-Cote Zinc Oxide, which features micronizing and coating zinc oxide that creates an optimally protective barrier on your skin.

All Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen products are free of chemical sunscreens, parabens, fragrances, oils, and propylene glycol. These formulas rely on sensitive--yet equally effective--ingredients to keep your skin well protected from the sun's harmful UVA and UVB rays. Enjoy the beauty of the outdoors while caring for your skin.
