Every single toner I've used in the past, from high end department stores to health food stores, caused my skin to break out. I needed something that would help remove dead skin but any type of manual or chemical exfoliant, no matter how fine or gentle, broke me out. With this toner, along with the Boots Deep Clean Mousse, I have ZERO irritation and the more I use it the better my skin looks. My skin looks better now than it has in years, in fact, a coworker of mine made a casual comment about him being older than me but in actuality I'm 7 years older than him. Nice. I didn't really know much about Boots Botanics, but I'm so glad I tried this toner! It's very gentle and it moisturizes me skin as well as it leaves my skin feeling soft, clean, and toned. As for brightening..I'm not sure if I noticed any effect. But this is a lovely toner. Be careful with the bottle though. Everything will spill out if you tip it over! Only complaint is that the bottle, if knocked over, spills quickly and this happened to me. I wish they'd make it with a squeeze-spout. I happen to love this toner; it works like it is suppose to by keeping your skin very moist and balanced and you do not need to use a ton of moisturizer after applying it.
