If you are retiring an 8595 model Braun, you will find some things in this model you may not like as well. Let's start with the strengths. The shave is great--smooth, easy to shave difficult areas like the jawbone and the neck. Cleaning is easy, especially if you are travelling--rinse head under hot water while shaver is on. No more brushes. The battery is Li-ion, which is an improvement over the NIMh in the 8595.
On the downside, the trimmer, which pops out at 90 degrees, works well for trimming sideburns, but not much else. With the 8595, the trimmer was easy to use for trimming the neck between haircuts. This trimmer doesn't work well for that because of the 90 degree angle. The lock on the tilt of the shaving head being located on the shaving head, is not as easy to engage as it was on the 8595 which just requred a quick movement of the thumb on the slide control. The lock on this shaver often takes two hands to engage. Finally the display does not give you as much information as the 8595. There is a series of black squares which turn green as the battery uses up the charge. When there is one square remaining, you have to guess if you can get one more shave or not. The 8595 had a similar display using a battery in which the black disappeared as the battery ran down, this changed to a minute counter at 9 minutes which told you exactly how many minutes you had left. The 8595 would also tell you how long your last shave was so you could determine if you had enough charge for one more shave.
Bottom line: Great shaver with some loss in utility and useful information from previous models and it is a bit clumsier to lock the tilt of the head.

There are only three reasons to buy an electric razor: save on blades, save time from buying blades or to avoid getting cut while shaving. Other than that blades, or manual shaving are superior--no one would argue that you can get as close as shave with an electric. The only thing they might say is "it is close to a blade." With that said, I ordered the Braun 790. The thing has a whole lot of items to it and things you must buy to keep it going. Unlike the Braun of old when it actually was a German company which specialized in practicality and didn't try to milk customers into buying unnecessary things, Proctor & Gamble (the maker of Tide and Crest) bought them out and changed the game.Now you need to have this nasty alcohol solution cleaner--which must be repurchased every thirty days--in order to use your shaver. In the past Braun was designed to be cleaned with water and a brush. Furthermore, you need to replace the cutting block every year and a half for about forty bucks. So any money you might have saved by not having to buy blades is eaten up by Proctor & Gamble's desire to milk as much money as it can from you! Within a year and a half you will have spent nearly $400 to buy and maintain this razor--which will never shave as close as a blade and takes twice as long to shave as a blade. And unlike Panasonic which allows for shaving under water, Braun must be used dry which reduces lubrication and the closeness of the shave. All in all a raw deal, and therefore I am returning my Braun and realize the only thing this razor will help you get rid of is a lot of your money!

This is my first foil type shaver. After going through several inexspensive rotory type shavers I decided to move up to the king of the road and found the 790cc. After having it for several weeks now, I have to say it is much better than the rotory shavers that I have sent to the landfill.
Pros: 1) very close shave-obviously not as close as a blade, but it is the next best thing 2) no irritation even on areas that are prone to it such as the neck at the hair line 3) self cleaning - I cannot imagine ever having to clean another shaver again 4) self cleaning (not repeating myself) - my wife loves the lack of whiskers in and around the sink... No I'm not an insensitive pig, I just usually shave as I am flying out the door which leaves me being less than diligent in cleaning the sink afterwards... With the self-cleaning feature she has had a spotless sink
Cons: 1) noisy cleaning cycle 2) expensive cleaning solution costs as much as foam and blades 3) expensive-likely the most expensive shaver in its class

I am in the military, so I pretty much have to shave everyday. Shaving was always the worst part of my day. I hated doing it. I have never really been able to use electric razors, because they ripped my face apart. They destroyed my skin. I took a gamble on this razor. I have been reading reviews for probably 2 weeks before I finally decided to buy it. The first time i used it, I was really excited. It was really smooth with no irritation. I love this thing, it makes shaving such a more enjoyable event. It is fast and smooth. The cleaning stand it pretty awesome also. I'm kind of a clean freak, so when all I have to do is put this bad boy in its charger and push a button and it's clean, it makes very happy. I honestly think every man should have one of these bad boys.
