If you are retiring an 8595 model Braun, you will find some things in this model you may not like as well. Let's start with the strengths. The shave is great--smooth, easy to shave difficult areas like the jawbone and the neck. Cleaning is easy, especially if you are travelling--rinse head under hot water while shaver is on. No more brushes. The battery is Li-ion, which is an improvement over the NIMh in the 8595.

On the downside, the trimmer, which pops out at 90 degrees, works well for trimming sideburns, but not much else. With the 8595, the trimmer was easy to use for trimming the neck between haircuts. This trimmer doesn't work well for that because of the 90 degree angle. The lock on the tilt of the shaving head being located on the shaving head, is not as easy to engage as it was on the 8595 which just requred a quick movement of the thumb on the slide control. The lock on this shaver often takes two hands to engage. Finally the display does not give you as much information as the 8595. There is a series of black squares which turn green as the battery uses up the charge. When there is one square remaining, you have to guess if you can get one more shave or not. The 8595 had a similar display using a battery in which the black disappeared as the battery ran down, this changed to a minute counter at 9 minutes which told you exactly how many minutes you had left. The 8595 would also tell you how long your last shave was so you could determine if you had enough charge for one more shave.

Bottom line: Great shaver with some loss in utility and useful information from previous models and it is a bit clumsier to lock the tilt of the head.

II've had a Braun Pulsonic for several years and have been very satisfied with it, so when needing a new shaver I naturally bought a Braun 7-790. The 7-790 does not shave near as close as the my old pulsonic, even when I have it on the most aggressive setting. Comparing the old pulsonic with the 7-790, it appears the difference is in the foil design. I will return the shaver to Braun and try a differnt brand.

Thus shaver is all but completely worthless. I have owned it for more than two years and I still find it very difficult to use, One has to go over and over their skin to get a clean shave. Even then, there will be loose hairs galore! All adjustments do not work.
Plus, alcohol is the first product on the ingredients list which makes it impossible to import, The shipment must go by road in-order to import.

I will give 4 stars because this is the 2nd 7series where the trimer broke. I rarely use the trimer but I guess Braun can't get it right (seems simple enough). However, it is the best shaver I've ever owned and I've owned many since 1978. I get the closest shave with the least amount of strokes. I will continue to buy the best of Braun shavers.

I have the Braun Series 7 790cc-4. This is my first electric shaver so comparisons can't be made. Being technically oriented I'll say the shaver is a technical work of art. The engineers did a great job.

My beard consists of hair slightly thicker than average and a little less dense than average. The hair grows out on steep angles in some areas.

Compared to a good shaving gel and an excellent razor blade I did not think an electric razor could compete. It can. My face feels softer after the gel and razor blade but this is due to long contact with soap and water. The actual length of hair afterwards is a bit questionable. I would guess the razor blade is a little closer but occasionally the razor blade takes some skin with it. The Braun works better on my neck area than a razor.

Naturally, I can only use a razor blade after a shower, using plenty of soap on my face, and then using the shaving gel prior to the razor blade. With the Braun I can shave any time but preferably not immediately after a shower when the hair is softer. Low, medium and high settings work OK but medium seems the best so far.

Someone mentioned hair pulling. I got none of that. The experience is totally beyond what I expected. Now I'm looking for the ideal lotion for my face after the electric shave. It is OK to use nothing but it is hard to break old habits.

I was surprised at how well it gets the upper lip area and just below the nose. Trimming up to the side burns was no problem. Then of course you have the pop-out hair trimmer for the sideburns or a mustache. Very clever.

My wife wants to use the razor also but is concerned about any man facial lotions I might get on it. Well, the cleaning station is amazing. It has various levels of automatic cleaning and drying of the razor. The 25 second quick clean is convenient but it has no heated dry cycle so blotting the shaver is necessary to dry it off. I would assume the dry cycle would heat it up too much for immediate use.

The tilt lock only activates when the head is tilted in one direction. This took me a while to figure out. Changing the cutting head is easy. The display readout is OK and conveniently located. The automated indicators are great. They take the guess work out of when it needs cleaning or charging. The docking/cleaning/charge station is well designed. Changing cleaning fluid is easy.

The time it took me to shave was as quick as using gel and a razor blade. The convenience is much better. Now I don't splash water all over the bathroom when rinsing my face.

The overall design totally impressed me. I thought I would only use the Braun on a few occasions. Now I might use it all the time.

The Braun is a bit expensive but I think you get all you pay for. It is an amazing piece of equipment.

This new Braun shaver is replacing a model I had for approximately eight years. It does an excellent job with every function except trimming. The angle of the trimmer requires one to hold it in an awkward position. This certainly does not diminish all the positive things about the shaver. Save your money and purchase this shaver for your next shave.
