Easy to use: Wash your hands before unwrapping the filter. 1) Soak the new filter for 15 minutes. 2) Insert filter into reservoir. 3) Add cold tap water. 4) Replace filter every 40 gallons or 2 months. See user's guide for detailed instructions. It is normal for carbon dust to appear in your first 2 pitchers or 1 dispenser. Discard this water, or use it to water plants. The Calendar Minder: 1) Insert the new filter. 2) Set filter indicator to closest date 2 months from now. 3) On the date indicated, remove your filter and repeat steps 1 and 2. For best results, store the Brita pitcher in your refrigerator or out of direct sunlight. The contaminants or other substances removed or reduced by this water treatment device are not necessarily in all user's water. Fresh filter equals fresher water.
