I put this liberaly on the back of my calves which is a high burn area when surfing and went out surfing. It was the only area that really got ultra exposure since I was wearing a rashguard. Short story:, my calves got fried to bacon after only about 2 hrs in the water!! I was very disappointed in this sunscreen. To it's credit I will say that I didn't seem to get burned while snorkeling though. So maybe it's just not suited to water activities where the water is more vigorous, like SURFING. Kinda odd since it's called surfer formula! Next time I'm gonna try HIC 2x Performance Sport Sunblock SPF 50 and see if it works better. I don't think i'll buy this again. I have used this product for several years and it works better than anything else I have tried. It applies thick and is greasy, but directons say to rub in a second time after 5 minutes. It works all day, in and out of the water. I use for water skiing and wake boarding. Pros

Its only downsides is that it really hurts my eyes if I am not careful applying it, and that I noticed that the product degrades after sitting on the shelf for a year or more. Pros

We found Bull Frog Surfer Formula on our beach trip one year and haven't used anything else since. We are in the ocean and pool all day and this sunscreen continued to protect them with the initial application and maybe a re-application halfway through the day. It is amazing how well it works. They both end up with a nice tan at the end of the week but absolutely no sunburn! Bull Frog Surfer also is super easy to apply. It just glides on! Pros

My husband hates putting on sunscreen, especially on his face. Up till now, the sprays were the best I could get him to use. Now, he loves the Bullfrog line, especially the gel formula SPF 36.
