I am a 30 year old African American female with relaxed hair. My hair prior to using the avocado butter was pretty healthy, it stops pass my shoulders and hits my bra strap. I tried the avocado butter at the recommendation of a friend whose mother does consultations for natural hair care issues. I was hesitant at first because my hair is not natural but figured it was worth a shot.

The first time I used it on my hair I wet my hair as stated and applied the product in sections to minimize breakage and to ensure the product was spread evenly throughout. I have to tell you I HATED the way it felt; greasy, goopy, just ewww. I put a shower cap on and wrapped my hair in a scarf. I left it on overnight and went to my regular weekly appointment at the salon the next morning. Once my hair was blown straight I admit I loved the results but didn't attribute them to the product (like I stated before my hair looked pretty good already). The real test was how my hair would look as I inched closer to my next touch up.

So far, I have used the product for 2 months now and I KNOW it's the avocado butter and nothing else since I have since eliminated my weekly deep conditioners due to my results. My hair has never been so shiny and smooth. I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to get my hair washed without this stuff. I don't wet my hair (I only did that the first time I used it), I apply it in sections onto my dry hair and scalp, pin it up, put on my shower cap and wrap it in a scarf and leave on overnight. Because of the heat from the shower cap and the scarf, your hair will feel wet anyway. I leave the product, shower cap, ect on until right before I'm about to wash it. Wash hair as normal and roller set. After the roller are taken out and my hair blown out, I have shiny, silky and beautiful hair every time. I truly thought the results would fade after time but actually the opposite happened. My scalp is healthier, dandruff a thing of the past and my hair is stronger than ever before. My beautician even commented on how much shinier and smoother my hair is ( she thinks it's the shampoo I'm using but I know what it really is.

Yes the overnight process isn't fun but its sooooo worth it.

I wanted to like this product, but it just doesn't work with my fine, shoulder length hair. I followed instructions, used it before shampoo on wet hair, and my hair was a hot mess afterwards. It dried out my ends and left my roots greasy. This would probably work best for thick and/or curly hair. I haven't tried it as a pomade, but I will not be purchasing this again.

Comments about Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment, 4.3 oz:

I have not had time to leave it on the recommended time, but my hair responded so well to the shorter time I do give it that I am looking forward to using it properly! I put it on first in the shower and switched to washing my hair at the end of the shower...so I have used it about 10-15 mins roughly 2 times a week. I am 55 with curly hair and have some grays coming in that are wild & crazy. This has tamed them and gave me back my shiny hair with the first use, which if you are over 50 IS a big deal. I am very pleased with this product.

Comments about Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment, 4.3 oz:

I bought this for a family member who suffered from a flakey scalp. The successful protocol, after many unsuccessful attempts to cure was the following. Wash hair with Burts Bees baby shampoo. Then rinse scalp with organic unrefined unfiltered apple cider vinegar. Work vinegar into scalp. Add a dime sized portion of avocado treatment and massage well into scalp. Style hair.

Works like a charm. The rule of thumb is not to use too much avocado treatment. It can leave hair grreasy. The use of ACV and avocado oil as detailed above, can be done as often as you comb or brush you hair.

Have been buying this product for 5 years.

The product works better on damp hair. Use ACV first.

It's ok. It's a little thinner than you'd expect from a product like this, but on the plus side it's not overly greasy. Smells yummy.

I have curly hair that is also going gray, so course and frizzy. I used this product a few times as pre-shampoo treatment and it's good, but it's best use is as a styling aid. I put just a dab on my hand, add just a drop of water and then rub my hands to emulsify then apply to my wet hair b/4 my styling product. Leaves my curly hair defined and frizz free, and soft, soft, soft! Love this!

Comments about Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment, 4.3 oz:

I love Burt's Bees products, but this was a huge disappointment. First of all it's really thick, not unexpected for a mask, but doesn't exactly spread well even with a comb. The directions state to comb the product through and allow it to set for 15 min. I did this and then shampooed and conditioned as normal. I was expecting my hair to be super soft like other masks I've used and I honestly only saw a little improvement. A little less frizz and a little softer, but nothing more than that. I have some chlorine damage but nothing extreme, I don't even use heat in my hair, so this was a huge let down for me.

I have quite a few deep conditioning products. I keep changing them from time to time, but this is an item I always return to. The usage is super simple---apply before washing your hire. Then you can just use shampoo rather than shampoo & conditioner. so it saves you time. The effect is great: smooths your hair and adds shine. I only have one complaint. It uses too quickly. I have long straight hair. I feel one tube can be used less than ten times. But given its cost and its effect, I still consider it a good buy.
