I am a 30 year old African American female with relaxed hair. My hair prior to using the avocado butter was pretty healthy, it stops pass my shoulders and hits my bra strap. I tried the avocado butter at the recommendation of a friend whose mother does consultations for natural hair care issues. I was hesitant at first because my hair is not natural but figured it was worth a shot.

The first time I used it on my hair I wet my hair as stated and applied the product in sections to minimize breakage and to ensure the product was spread evenly throughout. I have to tell you I HATED the way it felt; greasy, goopy, just ewww. I put a shower cap on and wrapped my hair in a scarf. I left it on overnight and went to my regular weekly appointment at the salon the next morning. Once my hair was blown straight I admit I loved the results but didn't attribute them to the product (like I stated before my hair looked pretty good already). The real test was how my hair would look as I inched closer to my next touch up.

So far, I have used the product for 2 months now and I KNOW it's the avocado butter and nothing else since I have since eliminated my weekly deep conditioners due to my results. My hair has never been so shiny and smooth. I ABSOLUTELY REFUSE to get my hair washed without this stuff. I don't wet my hair (I only did that the first time I used it), I apply it in sections onto my dry hair and scalp, pin it up, put on my shower cap and wrap it in a scarf and leave on overnight. Because of the heat from the shower cap and the scarf, your hair will feel wet anyway. I leave the product, shower cap, ect on until right before I'm about to wash it. Wash hair as normal and roller set. After the roller are taken out and my hair blown out, I have shiny, silky and beautiful hair every time. I truly thought the results would fade after time but actually the opposite happened. My scalp is healthier, dandruff a thing of the past and my hair is stronger than ever before. My beautician even commented on how much shinier and smoother my hair is ( she thinks it's the shampoo I'm using but I know what it really is.

Yes the overnight process isn't fun but its sooooo worth it.

I wanted to like this product, but it just doesn't work with my fine, shoulder length hair. I followed instructions, used it before shampoo on wet hair, and my hair was a hot mess afterwards. It dried out my ends and left my roots greasy. This would probably work best for thick and/or curly hair. I haven't tried it as a pomade, but I will not be purchasing this again.

It's ok. It's a little thinner than you'd expect from a product like this, but on the plus side it's not overly greasy. Smells yummy.

I have curly hair that is also going gray, so course and frizzy. I used this product a few times as pre-shampoo treatment and it's good, but it's best use is as a styling aid. I put just a dab on my hand, add just a drop of water and then rub my hands to emulsify then apply to my wet hair b/4 my styling product. Leaves my curly hair defined and frizz free, and soft, soft, soft! Love this!

Comments about Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment, 4.3 oz:

I love Burt's Bees products, but this was a huge disappointment. First of all it's really thick, not unexpected for a mask, but doesn't exactly spread well even with a comb. The directions state to comb the product through and allow it to set for 15 min. I did this and then shampooed and conditioned as normal. I was expecting my hair to be super soft like other masks I've used and I honestly only saw a little improvement. A little less frizz and a little softer, but nothing more than that. I have some chlorine damage but nothing extreme, I don't even use heat in my hair, so this was a huge let down for me.

I have quite a few deep conditioning products. I keep changing them from time to time, but this is an item I always return to. The usage is super simple---apply before washing your hire. Then you can just use shampoo rather than shampoo & conditioner. so it saves you time. The effect is great: smooths your hair and adds shine. I only have one complaint. It uses too quickly. I have long straight hair. I feel one tube can be used less than ten times. But given its cost and its effect, I still consider it a good buy.

I really like this product as a styling product after I shower instead. It didn't work so well for me as a preshampoo since my hair is very think. I highlight my hair and it gets very dry and damaged. I started using this product on my hair after I towel dry it and scrunch it a bit and my hair looks like I have beautiful beach waves when dry. It has also made my hair super healthy!

Comments about Burt's Bees Avocado Butter Pre-Shampoo Hair Treatment, 4.3 oz:

I tried this product as both a pre-shampoo treatment and also as a leave-in/styling aid. LOVE it as a pre-shampoo treatment! The required time is a little long, but I just wet my hair with a spray bottle, comb it through (you don't need a ton), and go make coffee, eat breakfast, etc., so it's ready by the time I'm ready to take a shower. Makes my hair super-soft and shiny! And the smell is FANASTIC.

I'm still trying to find the right amount/technique as a styling aid, though...my hair is wavy, fine in texture but I have a TON of it, so as a leave-in this product does help a lot with the manageability but it also weighs my hair down if I use too much. I think I've finally found a good method where I use about the size of a dime and mix it with a few drops of water to thin it out, and then scrunch it through my hair and either air or blow dry -- helps define my waves without too much weight, and is especially good to control humidity! Still on the fence, though, for my hair type...might just stick with it as a fantastic pre-shampoo treatment. But I can definitely see how this would be a GREAT leave-in/styling aid for someone with coarser or super-curly hair!

Overall, highly recommended! I'm noticing that I'm shifting a lot of my products over to Burt's Bees, and loving the results.
