I am a professional nature photographer. I am miserable when surrounded by bugs (unless I'm photographing therm!) Products with DEET will eat into my expensive gear. Buzz Away is very effective and will not hurt gear, acrylic nails, etc. A friend introduced this to me this past weekend and I became an immediate convert. I can't believe that people are complaining about the smell. The smell is not bad at all -- and compared to other bug sprays iit smells fabulous!!

I've been using this for about 3 years now. I use it when I work in my yard and flowers - it absolutely keeps the mosquitos off of me - I couldn't work outside without it. And, I actually LIKE the fragrance!

I use this stuff hiking and whenever I am outdoors at night. I take long, 6-10 hour hikes. I do have to reapply about halfway through but I don't care. Using something that smells nice, is natural and cruelty free, and isn't going to give me some horrible deformity because of toxic chemicals is worth a little reapplication. When I am outdoors at night it is usually for a social function and many people have remarked how nice this stuff smells.

My family has a cabin in northern Wisconsin, and the ticks are BAD. With a 1 and 3 year old, I was so stressed about having my kids outside I HAD to find something or I was going to drive my husband crazy. I tried Buzz Away and it worked! No ticks on the kids (or anyone else who used it). We even went on a hike through dense woods - no cleared path - and we came out without a single tick. (My husband didn't use it, and he had about 4 on him.) For those of you who are saying it smells bad... I disagree, but even if it does... what would you prefer? Toxic DEET, disease-ridden mosquitos and ticks, or a great product that smells? There's just no other logical choice.

Let's face it, DEET is the most effective ingredients in mosquito repellents, so we shouldn't expect natural mosquito repellents to work as well as those with DEET. Having said that, I still prefer something less toxic than DEET so I've been trying all the "natural" insert repellents for the past few years. Buzz away beats them all hands down. I use it on myself and the kids when we go to the playground or park. I re-apply every hour or so, if we're all sweating profusely or if there are exceptionally many mosquitoes in that area. I think if you want a mosquito repellent for the purpose of hiking for example (especially in an area where you know is likely to have mosquitoes) or if you want to be guaranteed not to have a single mosquito bite, go for something with DEET. Oh, and I don't mind the smell of this product at all. I think it's more effective than other natural mosquito repellents because it's more concentrated, hence the stronger smell. One more thing - I think the Extreme is more effective than the regular Buzz Away.

I use Buzz Away Extreme while playing Ultimate Frisbee. The smell is pleasant, but can be overpowering. The spray nozzle could use some improvement - it doesn't spray upside down, and the spray isn't very diffuse. You have to rub the product in if you don't want white circles all over your skin. In terms of its performance - it does seem to keep mosquitoes away, but only from the areas that are definitely covered. If there are any openings between spray spots, there's a good chance a mosquito will find one of those and get you. The fact that it's DEET-free is awesome, but I will probably not purchase this product again until it is improved.

The product is effective for repelling ticks & mosquitos but the smell is so noxious that you can't stand having the product on or being around anyone that has the product on. So I am still looking for a safe product that is effective for repelling these pesks!

The smell is horrible...I also, try to put this on my children before camp, thinking I was doing good by not giving them anything with deet in it. my child said she couldnt breath, I agree this stuff was suffocating.

This smells so horribly bad that I regretted putting it on my kids as soon as I sprayed it. I've never experienced a product this intolerable, and I'm in no way overly sensitive to smell. We threw it away.

I wanted something to keep the mosquitos away while enjoying the backyard with my family. I was looking for a family-friendly, pesticide-free option for a mosquito repellant. This stuff does repel mosquitos somewhat, but it also repels people. It has a horrible smell that I simply could not get past. I had to take a shower after wearing it for 30 minutes.
