Chemical Name: CABERGOLINE (ca-BER-goe-leen)

Common uses for Cabergoline
Cabergoline 0.5mg is a dopamine agonist used to treat high levels of prolactin in the body. It may also be used to treat other conditions as determined by your doctor.

Before using Cabergoline
Some medicines or medical conditions may interact with Cabergoline 0.5mg. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OR PHARMACIST of all prescription and over-the-counter medicines that you are taking. DO NOT TAKE CABERGOLINE 0.5mg if you are also taking metoclopramide, butyrophenones (such as haloperidol), phenothiazines (such as chlorpromazine), or thioxanthenes (such as thiothixene). ADDITIONAL MONITORING OF YOUR DOSE OR CONDITION may be needed if you are taking macrolides (such as clarithromycin). DO NOT START OR STOP ANY MEDICINE without doctor or pharmacist approval. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR of any other medical conditions including liver problems, high blood pressure, allergies, pregnancy, or breast-feeding. INFORM YOUR DOCTOR if you have a history of complications during pregnancy (such as high blood pressure or convulsions caused by pregnancy), or if you take medicine that may lower your blood pressure. USE OF CABERGOLINE 0.5mg IS NOT RECOMMENDED if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or a history of certain fibrotic (scarring) disorders (such as of the heart, lungs, kidneys).Contact your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns about taking Cabergoline 0.5mg.

Directions for Cabergoline
Follow the directions for using Cabergoline 0.5mg provided by your doctor. Cabergoline 0.5mg may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. You may want to mark on a calendar which days you are supposed to take Cabergoline 0.5mg. STORE CABERGOLINE 0.5mg at room temperature in a tightly-closed container, away from heat and light. IF YOU MISS A DOSE OF CABERGOLINE 0.5mg, contact your doctor.

Cautions for Cabergoline
DO NOT TAKE CABERGOLINE 0.5mg if you have had an allergic reaction to it or are allergic to any ingredient in this product. Laboratory and/or medical tests, including heart function may be performed to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. KEEP ALL DOCTOR AND LABORATORY APPOINTMENTS while you are taking Cabergoline 0.5mg. CABERGOLINE 0.5mg MAY CAUSE DIZZINESS, LIGHTHEADEDNESS, OR FAINTING. Alcohol, hot weather, exercise, and fever can increase these effects. To prevent them, sit up or stand slowly, especially in the morning. Also, sit or lie down at the first sign of dizziness, lightheadedness, or weakness. Cabergoline 0.5mg may cause drowsiness. DO NOT DRIVE, OPERATE MACHINERY, OR DO ANYTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DANGEROUS until you know how you react to Cabergoline 0.5mg. Using Cabergoline 0.5mg alone, with other medicines, or with alcohol may lessen your ability to drive or to perform other potentially dangerous tasks. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines cause dizziness. SOME PATIENTS TAKING CABERGOLINE 0.5mg HAVE DEVELOPED CERTAIN BEHAVIORAL CHANGES (SUCH AS INCREASED GAMBLING OR SEXUAL URGES). These effects usually go away when treatment with Cabergoline 0.5mg is stopped. Contact your doctor right away if you notice any unusual behavioral changes. BEFORE YOU BEGIN TAKING ANY NEW MEDICINE, either prescription or over-the-counter, check with your doctor or pharmacist. FOR WOMEN: IF YOU THINK YOU MAY BE PREGNANT OR PLAN ON BECOMING PREGNANT, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using Cabergoline 0.5mg during pregnancy. IT IS UNKNOWN IF CABERGOLINE 0.5mg IS EXCRETED in breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking Cabergoline 0.5mg.

Possible side effects of Cabergoline
SIDE EFFECTS that may occur while taking Cabergoline 0.5mg include constipation, dizziness, headache, indigestion, nausea, vomiting, or tiredness or weakness. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor. CHECK WITH YOUR DOCTOR AS SOON AS POSSIBLE if you experience behavior changes (such as aggression, increased gambling or sexual urges), confusion, cough, hallucinations, mood or mental changes, swelling of hands or feet, or vision disturbances. CONTACT YOUR DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY if you experience chest pain, depression, fainting, irregular heartbeat, or shortness of breath. An allergic reaction to Cabergoline 0.5mg is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor, nurse, or pharmacist. This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur. If you have questions about side effects, contact your healthcare provider. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

If you take too much Cabergoline
If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nasal congestion, fainting, or hallucinations.

If your symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor. DO NOT SHARE CABERGOLINE 0.5mg with others for whom it was not prescribed. DO NOT USE CABERGOLINE 0.5mg for other health conditions. KEEP CABERGOLINE 0.5mg out of the reach of children. IF USING CABERGOLINE 0.5mg FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, obtain refills before your supply runs out.
