This thing has camphor which may sooth skin temporarily, but constant use would actually make it an irritant. Also, why is there Salicylic acid in this? That ingredient would make your lips worse by making it peel even more when it's already chapped and it did happen to me. That sucks! Carmex should rethink the ingredients here, perhaps put a sunscreen. Anyway, it smells good and it's cheap compared to others, so I give it 2 stars. I fell in love with carmex while I was in high school and had a terrible case of chapped lips. I asked someone if I could use some of their carmex and I fell in love. Before that day I had never even heard of carmex. Now, this is all I use. I swear by it and would recommend it to anyone. I apply a thin layer to my lips every night before bed, and even if I don't wear lipstick during the day, my lips still stay soft and smooth. I no longer suffer from the terribly chapped, cracked lips I had for years. I've even used it to soothe chapped skin around my nostrils when I have a cold, and on especially dry, flaky patches of skin on my cheeks and forehead. Fantastic stuff--and at this price, you can stock up and have one on the nightstand, one in your purse and an extra just in case! But towards the buttom of the container, it is hard to get the balm with my finger, so I have to use lip brush to apply it. Ladies, if you want fuller and longer lashes, put this on your eyelids. It really works! But if you have sensitive eyes, I wouldn't recommend it. Now I know never to trust another brand of lip moisturizer again! Although there is no fancy label or delicious scent, it really works and makes my lips kissably smooth and moisturized all day. Maybe it would be good for cold sores that haven't really surfaced yet, but mine have, and it makes my lips feel gross and sticky. It did stop the itch and the pain I was feeling from my lips being so dry but I can't say I'd recommend it for surfaced cold sores like mine. Maybe good on those still in the "tingle" phase. Since I don't like dipping my fingers into the jar time and time again, I prefer their stick version. It's the only over the counter product that gets rid of my cold sores and it does it fast. I love the cooling effect, but I just wish it didn't taste so bad!
