Description of the Hazard

There have been eight (8) reports received by BRITAX of consumers injuring a finger as they fold the B-AGILE stroller. Incidents include one partial fingertip amputation, one broken finger and severe finger lacerations. (Although there have been no reports of similar injury with a BOB MOTION or B-AGILE Double stroller, the stroller frame design is identical to the B-AGILE stroller) The folding hinge located on the right side of the B-AGILE stroller frame may create a hazard if, after depressing the fold release button, the consumer then continues to press the button while simultaneously pulling on the fold release strap with the other hand. (Note: the fold release button engages with one quick press and the B-AGILE folding process should involve one and not both hands.) In that circumstance, the consumer’s finger may become exposed to a gap on the stroller frame above or below the folding hinge cover that opens as the stroller folds. All injury reports involve the fifth digit or smallest finger which has become lodged in the gap as the stroller folds resulting in laceration and/or bruising. As this release button is not accessible to child occupants, no child occupants of the strollers should be at risk to incur injury in this manner and none have been reported.

Consumer Information: What Consumers Should Do

All registered owners of the affected Strollers are being sent a free remedy kit that includes four (4) hinge covers that are designed to cover the stroller frame gap that occurs above and below the folding hinge as the stroller folds, and an instruction sheet for installing the covers. Owners should confirm their stroller is affected by visiting www.britaxstrollerrecall.com  or verifying the model number and date of manufacture as follows:

1. Look for the DOM Label: On the B-AGILE or BOB MOTION stroller, the label can be found on the inside of the stroller frame near the right rear wheel.

2. Look for model numbers U341782, U341783, U341764, U341763, U361818, U361819, U391820, U391821, and U391822 manufactured between March 1, 2011 and June 10, 2013 to determine if your stroller is affected.

3. If your stroller is affected, carefully read and follow the detailed instructions included in the remedy kit.

While we do not recommend that the consumer use the stroller until the hinge covers are applied, the stroller can continue to be safely used if the consumer removes his or her hand from the frame release button and stroller frame as the consumer pulls up on the stroller release strap. For any questions, contact our Customer Service Department at 1-866-204-1665 or email strollerrecall@britax.com.

Once consumers have received their remedy kit, BRITAX strongly recommends that the hinge covers be applied in order to eliminate all pinch risk.

To view a video on how to safely fold the stroller visit http://www.britaxusa.com/strollers/b-agile/videos  and click on the “One-Hand Quick Fold” video.

Consumers, who have not registered their product or need to verify existing registration should visit www.britaxstrollerrecall.com , contact Britax customer service toll free at 1-866-204-1665 or email strollerrecall@britax.com . Free remedy kits are automatically sent out upon registration. If a consumer registers a stroller by contacting Customer Service or by registering on-line after the announcement, a remedy kit will automatically be sent to the consumer within 7-10 days.
