After I destroyed by skin with all the harsh acne products I wanted something gentle and calming. I picked up cetaphil and after a week of using it day and night I was amazed. My skin has cleared up and I no longer have dry patches or an oily Tzone. I believe most people develop bad acne after using so much stuff on their skin. Good thing it regenerates.

It has been a month and my skin tone looks natural and not damaged.I still have the occasional small pimple but nothing noticable or cystic. So if your face is screaming for rescue try cetaphil GENTLE skin cleanser. The other cetaphil is a bit strong for dry or sensative skin but I use it when my skin gets hormonal and oily. Either way this is a great product and drinking enough water helps too.

I had been using Purity Made Simple by Philosophy, and liked it, but wanted something more reasonably priced. I needed a cleanser that would be gentle, remove makeup and not dry out my skin. I use Differin prescription product on my skin, and since Cetaphil is made by the same manufacturer, and I had heard good things about how gentle it is, I thought I'd give it a try. I was deeply disappointed.

Cetaphil dried out my skin horribly, leaving it absolutely parched and dreadfully tight after rinsing it off. It stung my skin when I washed with it, smelled unpleasant and caused my skin to flake and peel the following day. The worst part was the hyper-oiliness that resulted from using it. My skin reacted to being dried out so badly by the Cetaphil by cranking oil production into high gear. By mid-afternoon I had a disgusting, nasty, visible oil slick alll over my face, and I have never had that problem before. The increased oil production caused acne, which had completely disappeared since I'd been using Differin. I couldn't use moisturizer because even though I desperately needed it after the Cetaphil dried out my skin, it added to the puddle of oil on my face that appeared in the afternoon.

I have stopped using Cetaphil, and have gone back to Purity Made Simple by Philosophy. I'll never sacrifice quality for price again.

I can't say anything good about this product. It was disasterous for my skin, and I'm really surprised by this. I do not recommend it to anyone.

Comments about Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, 16 fl oz:

I had been using the Cetaphil Daily Cleanser and thought that I might need something gentler to address the dry patches on my skin, so I switched to the Gentle Cleanser. It did not help (still dry), plus it didn't actually clean my face. My white towels always become dirty when I dry my face after using this cleanser, whether or not I'm wearing makeup.

Comments about Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, 16 fl oz:

For a while I ended up with some stubborn eczema around my eyes and tried desperately to get rid of it. I like to use make up during the day (or I kind of have too w/my spots). When I went online to find out about eczema I found out that cetaphil was highly recommended for this problem. I remember using this 10 years ago and don't even remembered why I stopped buying it. Anyhow after using this for 2 days to clean my eyes and foundation my eczema stopped itching and ended up disappearing.

I have to say that cetaphil should give better directions on how to remove your daily make up. Because just rubbing it in removes nothing. You can either rub it in on a dry face and remove your make up with a cotton ball. Or you can do what I do, rub it all over my face in the shower and remove your make up with a wet wash cloth. After that I use Dickinson witch hazel to remove any left over foundation. And apply a good night moisturizer.
In the morning I wash my face with it and let it soak dry instead of using a towel. Then I can use my sunscreen spf 25 without feeling guilty that I don't use a moisturizer.

The result? Younger, softer looking skin that feels moisturized and no more eczema!
And no more spending x amount of $$$ on high end cleansing stuff.

Comments about Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, 16 fl oz:

I have used Cetaphil for years and never had a problem with it. It won't leave your skin feeling tight. It's never harsh.

I have dry, fragile skin and I can only speak for it's use with skin like mine. But if you find facial cleansers generally too harsh and drying, this is a great product that's stood the test of time.

The non-breakable pump bottle makes it very convenient for use in the shower or over the sink.

You can spend lots more but you can't buy a better product.

Dermatologist recommended with prescription cream for face. Very gently but use twice since I wear foundation and once does not feel like thorough clean. Non-irritating. Soothing to red, irritated, or sun-burned skin. No fragrance.

Comments about Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, 16 fl oz:

I have an allergy to perfume that suddenly became drastically bad. My scalp became so itchy I had myself checked out for lice. When I got a clean bill, I tried Head and Shoulders for the itchiness and broke out in hives all over my scalp.

Benedryl mixed with Cetaphil helped me out of that one and I have taken to using Cetaphil (sans Benedryl) every few days.

I alternate with Aveeno Skin Relief Body Wash because Cetaphil can be a little bit drying for my hair, and the Aveeno can be a little bit oily for my hair. I haven't had any luck finding shampoo that works for my hair. The organic, all natural shampoos have plants I'm allergic to and are on the pricy side.

I no longer use conditioner and my shoulder-length hair is doing all right with gentle brushing to spread natural oils along the length and the alternating of the cleansers. I can even blow dry my hair when I really need to, but I usually let it air dry.

It also works great as a body wash. (as it is intended to be for the skin) :) My skin is much happier since I have been using it and my son's eczema is better in control since he has started using it instead of soap or body wash.
