First, you do not have to fast with this test but all labs and doctor offices require you to fast 12 hours prior to their test. Therefore, the test results will be much different. Also, if you get an extremely low value on the Choles-Trak, you probably did not put enough blood into the chamber or did not wait long enough for the results to finish. Cholesterol can raise and lower with just walking across a room, getting upset, being exposed to heat and on it goes. I use this test as a baseline and trust it very much. It is always very close to what my lab results show. You need to be consistent with preparation (fasting, etc) in order to compare. I do not have high cholesterol so I am using this as a monitor only. If I see changes, I would get lab testing done. All in all, it is a good product and with insurance deductibles like they are, I think it is a huge savings. VS Most Liked Negative Review Are the lab numbers bumped up? I've also used a more sophisticated digital product givin to me by my sister-in-law and got the same results. Her results on her product were 250, the same count as her blood work done in the lab on the same day. She ran a test on her product before she went to the lab. Cons Best Uses Comments about CholesTrak Home Cholesterol Test, 2 ea: The product seems to work fine. I twice took the test and then had lab work done to verify. It was very close. I started veganism 4 months ago, and wanted to do home tests to just see if the trend was going down for my lipids. I am not concerned if the number is exact. Works well for my purpose. Best Uses Comments about CholesTrak Home Cholesterol Test, 2 ea: DEFINITELY, test on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. When you take your lab tests do the same thing ( unless doctor tells you otherwise of course ). Comments about CholesTrak Home Cholesterol Test, 2 ea: The first finger pricker did not create a large enough wound to get enough blood for a sample. Had to use the second one. They have a one time use. Then after filling the well and tapping several times and pulling the tab out to begin the test... nothing! There is some liquid inside that is supposed to mix with the well and it never did. I could see the liquid creeping up the paper but it was clear. Next step, go to a professional for a cholesterol test. Bottom Line No, I would not recommend this to a friend Was this review helpful? Best Uses Comments about CholesTrak Home Cholesterol Test, 2 ea: My husband & I are late 30's in great health. We decided to try this as a cheaper alternative to seeing the Dr. for a basic cholesterol checkup. Results were excellent for both of us. Not a month later my husband saw his Dr. anyway for a checkup, and his Cholesterol was SKY HIGH! So high in fact they could not even complete all his tests (HDL, LDL, Trigylerides). He was in danger and immediately got treatment. NO THANKS to these lousy waste of money tests. I have to go see what mine REALLY is now! Comments about CholesTrak Home Cholesterol Test, 2 ea: I do not have any confidence in this product. Each time I used it, it showed low readings when in all actuality, readings were 50 - 60 points higher when blood work was done in a lab. It is a waste of money to buy this product. It is not accurate and borders on dangerous. For those who seek medical information to tailor their lifestyle, this device could lead you astray.
