Regarding the negative reviews here, I think that perhaps comparing this product to a hospital lab result can be misleading. First, you do not have to fast with this test but all labs and doctor offices require you to fast 12 hours prior to their test. Therefore, the test results will be much different. Also, if you get an extremely low value on the Choles-Trak, you probably did not put enough blood into the chamber or did not wait long enough for the results to finish. Cholesterol can raise and lower with just walking across a room, getting upset, being exposed to heat and on it goes. I use this test as a baseline and trust it very much. It is always very close to what my lab results show. You need to be consistent with preparation (fasting, etc) in order to compare. I do not have high cholesterol so I am using this as a monitor only. If I see changes, I would get lab testing done. All in all, it is a good product and with insurance deductibles like they are, I think it is a huge savings.

I've used this product and got a 150 count. I've also used a more sophisticated digital product givin to me by my sister-in-law and got the same results. Her results on her product were 250, the same count as her blood work done in the lab on the same day. She ran a test on her product before she went to the lab.
23 years ago my count was 259. I totally changed my diet (Vegan) and cholesterol dropped to 180 in three months. I had my blood work lab-tested year after year and it remained at 180, until the statin drugs hit the market. My cholesterol is now back to 259 according to Dr's lab results. We can only imagine how much money is being made on these drugs. I know for a fact Dr's are paid by the drug companies to push their products. My question is, are the lab numbers bumped up to improve sales?
It's something to think about.

Did the test as directed adn it never gave a reading. Did not turn blue in first reading, no green at end. Simply no reading at all. The blood never soaked in, went anywhere. Disappointing

It seems complicated the first time but after that it gets easier. The numbers we got where in the range we expected so I think it's accurate enough for a cheap home test.

Great idea but complicated to use. Also I have what my Dr. describes as "sticky blood" so I could not get a reading. Your blood has to drop thru this hole and mine just coagulated in the entry point. My boyfriend did his and it gave him a reading but what a project. Almost worth paying to see the Dr. instead.

The product seems to work fine. I twice took the test and then had lab work done to verify. It was very close. I started veganism 4 months ago, and wanted to do home tests to just see if the trend was going down for my lipids. I am not concerned if the number is exact. Works well for my purpose.

DEFINITELY, test on an empty stomach first thing in the morning. When you take your lab tests do the same thing ( unless doctor tells you otherwise of course ).
HIGH is HIGH ... I have found that this test assists me in measuring how well I am doing with diet and excersise to keep this under control. It gives you a ball park figure but I have not been more then 20 points different +/- .
Insurance will only let you do two tests a year ... IF YOUR LUCKY ... so use this as information back up.
When Lab testing make sure you use this test on THE SAME DAY with the same parameters - empty stomach if possible - to measure accuracy. FYI I buy the lacets separately to stick my fingers - I dont like the one in the kit.

The first finger pricker did not create a large enough wound to get enough blood for a sample. Had to use the second one. They have a one time use. Then after filling the well and tapping several times and pulling the tab out to begin the test... nothing! There is some liquid inside that is supposed to mix with the well and it never did. I could see the liquid creeping up the paper but it was clear. Next step, go to a professional for a cholesterol test.

My husband & I are late 30's in great health. We decided to try this as a cheaper alternative to seeing the Dr. for a basic cholesterol checkup. Results were excellent for both of us. Not a month later my husband saw his Dr. anyway for a checkup, and his Cholesterol was SKY HIGH! So high in fact they could not even complete all his tests (HDL, LDL, Trigylerides). He was in danger and immediately got treatment. NO THANKS to these lousy waste of money tests. I have to go see what mine REALLY is now!
