I love this color and the Brass Free feature. It worked better for me after always using the regular Natural Instincts for years. But...to Clarol; adding the 2wk color packet makes me think that the product won't last but 2 weeks. It was always fine before you started adding this packet. Every 2 week packet I have used was too red and too dark. Go back to just the hair color alone.

I have been using Natural Instincts for years to cover up my summer highlights every fall. This year I went with the brass free brunette in light brown (my natural color is medium brown) to darken my highlights. The initial color turned out fine, other than it damaged my hair pretty bad which is not how it used to do when I've used their products in the past. After 2 weeks I'd noticed some typical fading and used the 2 week refresher that came with the box. It turned my hair RED! Why would they have a packet in the brass free line that would do the opposite of what you're trying to achieve?? I emailed them and so disappointed. I now see several terrible reviews on the refresher packet. Why are they still putting this in the color boxes??! Now I am going to have no choice, but to dye my hair again to try and cover up this red and that's just more color and damage to my hair. Will never purchase anything from Clairol again.

I used this product to conceal/blend summer root growth and to bring my hair closer to it's natural color. I chose brass free because my hair tends to pull red tones when colored. The product itself worked great. Color was quite pleasing until I applied the two week refresher packet. I KID YOU NOT, suddenly I'm carrot-top. Come on, Clairol. Why include that 'refresher' packet in with the Brass Free product -- knowing full well it was going to turn hair a nasty, unnatural shade of red? Shame on you. Very disappointing.

The 2 week refresher packet turned my hair bright reddish orange, just as it has for other users. Clairol was not helpful at all and just gave a scripted response that could have been read off the directions included with the color. They made every excuse possible regarding all the reviews regarding this, but took zero responsibility that just maybe their product was defective. Just wanted to warn others about the packet.

Covered grays but the two week touch-up packet was pure red even though the color I used was brown. I had to recolor with brown to cover it up. Now I buy the product and just pitch the little extra package.

I liked the description of being 'brass free' it couldn't have mis-respresented it self more..the first color was fine....the boost color at 2 weeks turned my hair tomato red....really red!!!...ended up back at the colorist to turn around the damage...

I keep buying this product cause it works! Covers the grays and it looks natural! A stylist thought it was my natural color!

The color looked great for about one week on my previously colored hair before it faded out. It did nothing for my gray hair. I am not sure if it is me or the hair color because nothing seems to work on my salt and pepper hair. I do swim 3 times a week in a pool with minimal chlorine added and I wear a cap and wash my hair straight after swimming. I won't buy this product again. I do however know someone who loves this product and says it works for her.

I have long hair, and have been coloring my hair for 20 years to even out the color (summer to winter growth) or enhance natural color, so I did not color it that often (3-4 times/year). Now that I am starting to go gray, I've found that to keep the root growth camouflaged and re-color the grays, I need to color more often. This product doesn't provide the richness and depth of color as some of the other permanent products (hence the 4 stars) -- but it also doesn't strip it of both moisture and natural color as much, either. If you stick close to your natural color, you'll get a believable color with a pretty, lasting shine. I think Clairol has effectively hit the mark in filling a gap with a longer-lasting grey coverage product (this lasts longer than other less-permanent grey-specific products I've tried), yet can be used fairly often while minimizing damage and with pleasing color results. I especially appreciate the Brass-Free formula which I've used more recently - I don't end up reddish when it's close to time to re-color.

The color stays on forever. I've been using the product for about 1 year and I only touch up the roots, to avoid over-processing my hair, and the color always matches... in order words, very little if any fading, and it does NOT turn yellow or brassy... my ends have not been retouched for months and they still look fabulous. I've used semi-permanent coloring for 35 years and this is the best product I've ever used, by far!
