What to do if you have a reaction during or within the next 48 hours of coloring your hair if during coloring you experience:

Any rapidly spreading skin rash, dizziness or faintness, shortness of breath or swelling to eyes/face, rinse immediately and seek immediate medical attention.
If after coloring or on the following days you experience:

I have been using this color for years and I still love it! My hair is naturally light brown and it gets highlights every summer when I am in the sun more. I've also started getting a lot of gray hair springled in and I don't want it to look drab. This color covers the gray pretty well; gives it a nice shine and a natural warm brown/blonde coloring that looks like me only better. In 4 weeks, there is no root, it's just ready for a touchup. I just go over the whole head again and it has never caused any problems for me.

People always say any brown would be too light on bleached or highlighted hair but when I used this I barely noticed a difference. I had been afraid of going too dark but this color didn't make much of a difference to my roots nor my colored hair. I tried the next 2 browns up and they worked a lot better. But I was glad this color didn't pull any crazy colors like red. It just didn't do much of anything. Don't be afraid to go up a color, unlike they say. After all it washes out or fades within a couple weeks.

I color to cover the grays. This product did not do that. I left the product on the recommended time but had to reapply (I had enough left over)and still saw the gray. also color was dull.

I love this color. It covers my gray and gives me the color I had in elementary school. If you don't want a reddish tint, you should probably choose a different shade.

This was only my 2nd time trying at-home hair color so I'm no expert but I think you should actually be able to tell you've colored your hair, after you've applied product. I won't be trying this kind again.Maybe I should've left it on longer than 10 minutes and maybe I should've used most of it on my roots & grays. All I know is, it's like I wasted [$].The after-color conditioning is nice though. In my opinion, this hair color is weak and it won't cover grays but if you try it, leave it on for 15 minutes.

I am absolutely in love with this color! I naturally have dark blonde hair and I get light blonde highlights in the summer. To tone down the variation of my roots & highlights in the winter, I use this. It doesn't smell bad putting it on. The only thing: leave it on for almost DOUBLE the time it recommends. The first time I did it, I listened to the box's directions and it just made my hair a little darker & a little reddish. The second time, it came out looking just like the model on the box. The best part about this color is that it gets more beautiful as it fades. Absolutely amazing! Thank you Clairol!

My natural hair color was light brown with red highlights and about 50% grey. I decided to color 5 years ago and chose this shade because on the box it looks close to my natural shade. What a surprise! What I got was a really GREAT copper color. My birth hair color was a very dark auburn, so I have the complexion and eye color that goes with red hair, and I love the copper shade I get. People go nuts over the color, so it's not just me who loves it. The color looks really fresh for about 2 weeks and then starts to fade -- that's after about 6-8 shampoos NOT the 28 the box claims it will last. The color still looks good the third week and by the fourth I have to color again because my hair grows really fast and I have grey at the roots. I leave the color on for close to a half hour but even after 5 years of coloring once a month have zero damage to my hair. It's silky, soft, and shiny.

Like other reviewers, this turned my medium brown hair red, red, red! Friends stopped me on the street to say how much they liked my new red color. Well, if I'd wanted red, that would've been fine, but I was looking for golden brown. There wasn't a hint of gold in my hair - just a medium auburn. Not what I was looking for.

The color is described as a light golden brown. My natural shade is medium brown; and on my hair, the product is really amber with brown undertones. Someone recently called me a redhead which wasn't the look I expected. So basically my hair doesn't look like what the box shows because it is much more a orange-brown red. It looks good with my coloring though (fair and brown eyes) and shiny. The only negative is the grey coverage could be better.

I loved the color (and price) of this product, and I really wanted it to work. Unfortunately, after only one application, it made my curly hair, that tends to be on the dry side, very dry and brittle. Even after the color had faded, my hair still felt damaged--like straw. I went to a salon and got a temporary color/condition treatment that has fixed my hair. I won't use this product again.

I have light brown hair with lots of grays on the way. Since my hair is long I need to use two bottles of product for coverage, so I use a darker color underneath and a blonde on top. It creates a very natural look and any stubborn grays just look like more highlights. I have very fine hair and it does take this color very well, meaning that even though it isn't supposed to lighten hair, it can ligthen mine, and it never trully washes out. I try to not recolor too often to keep my hair from getting damaged, which this product does very little but overuse can cause some drying.
Do the skin allergy test 48 hours before each application, even if you have already used coloring products.
Helpful Hints
Apply color to damp hair that is free of styling product build-up. Do not shampoo immediately before coloring, as the scalp's natural oils help to protect it during coloring.
Before Starting:
Have a clock ready for timing
Put on gloves
Comb hair gently
Put towel around shoulders to protect clothing
Step 1: Get Ready to Color
Tear off and discard the tab from the Color Activating Creme (Bottle #2). Then unscrew the cap.
Open the Color-Enhancing Colorant (Bottle #1) and squeeze entire contents into Bottle #2.
Replace cap. Place gloved finger over tip, point away from face, and shake well until the color has fully mixed.
Step 2: Apply Color For Roots and All-Over Color
After mixing, apply color immediately to damp hair.
Apply mixture first to your roots and where you have the most gray.
When roots are completely covered, apply remaining color quickly to the rest of your hair by parting and lifting hair as you apply
If you apply color every 4-6 weeks, apply color to roots only and wait until the last 5-10 minutes of your timing to apply to the rest of your hair.
Work mixture through until hair is completely saturated. Do not rub into scalp.
Step 3: Wait 10 Minutes
Now, start your timer for just 10 minutes (or the time indicated by your strand test).
For resistant gray hair, you may need to leave color on for an additional 5 minutes, for no longer than a total of 20 minutes.
Step 4: Rinse and Condition
Rinse until water runs clear.
Gently massage a quarter-sized amount of the Color Treat™ Conditioner (Tube #3) through your hair.
Leave on for 2 minutes, then rinse.
Save remaining Color Treat Conditioner to use once a week for fresh, radiant color and healthier-looking hair.**
If any color gets on your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp towel. Once mixed, never reseal or store the color in a closed container, as it could burst. Pour any unused color mixture down the drain, as it will lose its effectiveness after 30 minutes.
Step 5: Refresh Your Color After 2 Weeks
Natural Instincts ColorFresh™ Revitalizer Boost your color in just minutes!
Use it 2 weeks after you have colored your hair. Note: Before using it, conduct another skin allergy test 48 hours before application by applying a small amount of the product to an area the size of a quarter in the bend of your elbow and allowing to dry. Do not wash this area for 48 hours. If there are no skin reactions, proceed with product application. If a rash, redness, burning or itching occurs, you must not use this product. The color of the Revitalizer product does not represent your final hair color result.
Shampoo hair as usual.
Put on gloves.
Apply the entire sachet of ColorFresh™ Revitalizer into your hand and distribute uniformly through the hair, concentrating on your roots and where you have the most gray.
Leave on for 5 minutes - if you want a more intense color result, leave on for up to 10 minutes.
Rinse thoroughly and style as usual.
You do not need to apply conditioner afterwards.
Additional Instructions
Before You Color: 48 Hours In Advance
Take the allergy test.
Do the strand test to determine your optimal coloring time.
Read this entire instruction leaflet before you begin.
Skin Allergy Test Instructions:
Must be performed 48 hours before you color you hair.
You will need a cotton ball or swab, a plastic bowl and a plastic spoon.
To open, unscrew the entire Color Activating Creme cap (Bottle #2). Don't pull off the tab. Then unscrew the Color Enhancing Colorant cap (Bottle #1).
Mix small equal parts of the Color Enhancing Colorant and Color Activating Creme in a plastic bowl.
Tightly recap both bottles.
Apply mixture to a test area the size of a quarter in the bend of your elbow. Allow to dry. Use remaining mixture for the strand test. Do not wash this area for 48 hours. During washing, protect with an adhesive bandage and remove it immediately after washing.
Examine the test area during the next 48 hours. If no reaction occurs, you are ready to color.
The absence of a reaction to this test is no guarantee that an allergic reaction may not occur as a result of a future hair coloring process. However, this test represents an important precaution. Please consult a doctor if you have any doubts.
Note: if a rash, redness, burning or itching occurs, you may be allergic. Stop. You must not use this product.
Strand Test:
Do the Strand Test each time you color to determine optimal timing and color results. Perms, relaxers, previous color, and the sun can affect your results and timing.
You will need: Scissors, tape and a clock.
Cut a � inch wide strand from the darkest or grayest part of your dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end. Dampen with water.
Completely cover the hair strand with the mixture remaining from the Allergy Test. Start timing.
After 10 minutes (8 minutes for permed or relaxed hair), check the strand. If the strand is not the color you want, return it to the mixture and check the color every few minutes for up to 20 minutes.

Useful Tips From The Experts At Clairol:
If hair has build-up, shampoo one day prior to coloring. Do not shampoo immediately before coloring. Your scalp has natural oils that help protect it during coloring.
To prevent staining, apply a little moisturizer around your hairline.
For best results, do not shampoo your hair for 24 hours after coloring.
If you plan to perm your hair, perm first, and then you can use Natural Instincts the very same day as long as your scalp is not irritated and is in good condition.
If you plan to chemically relax your hair, relax your hair first, and then wait at least 7 days and one shampoo before coloring.
