I loved the original Natural Instincts but thought I'd give this product a try. It's very difficult to work with, especially on dry hair as the instructions state. I normally have dark brown hair and like to use Natural Instincts as a gloss/hair brightener. This creme turned my scalp neon orange and tinted my hair pink in multiple scattered areas (I also saw my orange scalp immediately after rinsing the product out of my hair and then vigorously tried shampooing both my scalp and the product out of my hair; unfortunately, I still have an orange scalp and patchy pink hair). AVOID this product!!

I'm really tired of these 'new' Clairol products - cremes, foams, they all stink. Dark auburn my foot... my hair, especially at the hairline, is now bright red, almost orangish. It's horrid. I'm going to have to wash my hair several times a day for a week to get this back out. Right before Thanksgiving, too, where I'll be in a house full of people. This is going to be soooo embarrassing.

The initial color result was nice... until I used the week-two color refresher. When applying it I was skeptical because the product in the color-refresh packet was orange. But I was trusting that the product wouldn't deliberately 'sabotage' my hair color and left it on for the recommended amount of time. Well, it left my complete hairline YELLOW. Can you imagine a yellow hairline with the rest of your head dark auburn? Even my 12-year-old son looked at me funny and said, "Mom... your hair right here (pointing at my hairline near the sides of my face and at my forehead) looks... well, lighter than it used to be, it looks blonde."

I kid you not, this is what my son said, when my hair has always been a natural auburn color. I use this product to KEEP my natural color, which it does a good job of, but gets rid of my grays. In conclusion, I will still use the product, but will STAY AWAY from the week-two color refresher. It has made me look like a 'freak', in so many words, and I'm leaving to go out of town this weekend to see friends I haven't seen in 4 years. This will be incredibly embarrassing and I'm now very sorry I used the color refresh and wish I could take it back, especially now. I don't know what to do for the weekend. I guess I'll just have to live with it :(

In general, I think Natural Instincts is good hair color, but this color I did not like. As a previous reviewer said, the color is a cool, maroon color. If you want to advertise you color your hair, this will do that for you. It might be pretty on a younger person, but at 40 ish, the color is too much. Wish they would make some warmer reds, all the Natural Instincts seem to come up cool toned red. Hair does feel soft and unabused, so acouple weeks and I'll roll the dice again, sigh.

If you are looking for a rich beautiful dark auburn this if for you. If you are looking for something lighter don't buy it. I have been using this for years and get many compliments & people can't believe my color comes from the drugstore and not a salon. Yes it has a strong scent but what hair color doesn't? I have had my hair professional colored many times & this in NO more offensive in fragrance than that ANd I am VERY sensitive/ allergic to many fragrances. It is easy to mix and only makes a mess if you are sloppy and not careful with your application. Yes it stains, but that is the whole purpose of hair color! This is the only brand I ever use because it actually leaves my hair in better condition than before I colored. But remember red fades fast...

I usually like Natural Instincts, and I've used several of their semi-permanent products before. I'm a natural redhead, and my natural color is a medium-orange hue. Sometimes I like to go a little darker, and once in awhile I'll try a richer, deeper semi-permanent auburn.

Unfortunately, I don't like this one very much. The creme is very messy and it stains everything it touches. The smell is sickly-sweet floral, and worst of all, the color is far too exaggerated. I was hoping for a natural, chestnutty auburn shade, but this color is a cartoonish and clownish inky maroon.

Overall, I don't dislike the color, but the application was so messy, and it is far brighter than it looks on the package. I'm hoping it will fade somewhat before I have to go back to work on Monday.

If you have darker hair and if you like aggressive floral scents, and if you don't mind making a mess of your bathroom, this might be a good choice for you. I won't be buying it again, though.
