Hear it from an expert: Marie Robinson Clairol Colorist Named the "Best haircolor stylist" by Instyle magazine.
"Foam is next generation of at home hair color. Nice 'n Easy color blend give you multi-dimensional color with natural-looking tones and highlights."
Will foam hair color give me the same coverage as my regular formula? Absolutely! Color Blend Foam is designed to cover and color completely, front to back and root to tip. Simply distribute the foam evenly throughout your hair and follow the time indicated in your strand test. Watch our How-to video for more tips.
How is foam's coverage better than liquid or crème coverage? Color Blend Foam gives you more product volume as it foams up offering effortless, complete coverage. With Color Blend Foam, it's easy to cover every strand over your entire head.
Does foam spread as easily as liquid or stay in place as well as cream? Whereas a liquid spreads more easily than a cream, a cream stays in place better. Nice `n Easy Color Blend Foam combines the best of both worlds. It behaves like a solid when resting, eliminating the drip-factor, but acts as a liquid when moving, making it easier to spread.
How does foam actually color my hair? Once it is applied to your hair, your hair's natural oils collapse the foam. The resulting liquid is drawn through the hairs, allowing the color to penetrate hair quickly and evenly from root to tip. Color Blend Foam will not begin to collapse until it's applied to your hair.

Comments about Clairol Nice 'n Easy Color Blend Foam, Black 2, 1 ea:
I have been dying my hair myself for 5 years. I prefer this product over others specifically because of the foam. I disagree with another reviewer who says that it makes a mess. How much of a mess you make will depend on your patience and care; in this case, the foam requires that you have both, but it is worth it to me. I make no mess whatsoever when using this product. I usually prefer non-chemically brands, but because I have long hair (mid-back) I had to buy 2 boxes of all other dyes to get all of my hair dyed, and even then, the color was not consistant. It would look darker on top, lighter through the length, which is not what anyone wants.
I think this product best suits shoulder or longer hair. It's pointless to use the foam for short hair because for short or bob-length hair, you can use anything and it will turn out pretty much the same and it may be easier for the user. The foam requires an extra 5-10 minutes of patience and care to use than the average home dye. It will allow you to apply it to MORE hair than other types of dyes, or to thicker hair, hence the usefulness for long hair.
First, buy yourself disposable gloves if you prefer to have more control because the ones provided in the box are large and unweildly. Use the paper the gloves are wrapped in by spreading it out on the sink or area you are working over. This is your "tablecloth". Do not use this on a surface that may permanently stain (it's better to cover the area or use it near tiles, etc., which resist staining more). Again, take your time and you won't spill a drop. In my opinion, this is the case with any dye!
Before applying, comb your hair thoroughly and then lightly dampen your hair (I just pat it with wet gloves--but NOT near the root). Now apply a good coat of petroleum jelly around all the places you don't want stained by the dye: your forehead, hairline, ears, neck, etc. Wherever you might accidently get a little on yourself. Do not apply the pretroleum jelly beyond the hairline.
Then go ahead and start applying your mixed dye at the root so that your greys get covered first. Once your crown is done, then begin to spread it to the rest of the length by first applying the foam to your gloved hands, then patting it into your lenth of hair. Go slowly and take your time to avoid a mess. Turn your head upside down slowly and do the bottom hairline and hair. Use every last drop of foam and just keep piling it on until the whole head is soaked. When you are done, wrap your hair up with a clip and put a plastic shower cap on. Wash the gloves as you would normally wash your hands. With the gloves wet, lightly swipe over any stains you inadvertantly made on yourself, wetting the gloves over and over and wiping softly until all of the stain is gone. Keep the cap on 20-40 minutes depending on how stubborn your greys are; mine require 40 minutes. I would suggest 30 for most hair. Go about your business!
Before rinsing, get in the shower and rub your hairline briefly back and forth vigourously with a gloved finger to smear the dye, about 1-2 minutes for the whole head. It seems counterintuitive, but my mother is a 30-year hairstylist and the dye rubbing on itself will actually prevent staining if you then wash it right away. Keep the gloves on at least for the first shampoo. Immediately shower and rinse hair thoroughly with water (not too hot), especially at the hairline. Wash once, add conditioner to whole head, rinse. Shampoo again and rub it on hairline, rinse. Apply a final coat of conditioner to the length while you finish showering. Rinse hair with lukewarm or cool water for a few minutes before leaving the shower. Use an old towel to wrap your hair as it will stain slightly. That's normal for all dyes (I have seen it for 30 years).
This dye lasts me almost 2 months. My long hair looks amazing and shiny. All dyes smell bad for a day or two, so no big issue there for me and actually this one doesn't smell as bad as other brands if you rinse it properly. Don't wash your hair for 3 days after dying and it will last longer. This can be used just for the roots, but it's ideal for the whole head. I hope this helps the non-beauticians out there!
Comments about Clairol Nice 'n Easy Color Blend Foam, Black 2, 1 ea:
I honestly don't understand why this product is getting such horrible reviews. I've been coloring my hair for years and this product was much easier and mess-free than most i've used. Although, i wasnt sure if the color was distributed quite evenly. I may or may not buy it again, but it really was a pretty good experience.
Comments about Clairol Nice 'n Easy Color Blend Foam, Black 2, 1 ea:
This product is very easy to use, even for someone who tried to color her hair for the first time in her life! The foam is definitely much better than the liquid type (which was why I never tried coloring my own hair before). It's inexpensive so you can do it more often, if your hair grows fast and the gray shows too soon (like mine). Going to the beauty salon once a month is finally becoming too expensive and I'm very glad to have this new product to save me money and time. Two things though: first, you may have to leave it on longer than the recommended 25 minutes. My first try didn't cover all my gray hair. I'll leave it on for at least 30 minutes next time. I have very dark hair and the gray shows up more noticeably. But the length of time required could be different if your hair isn't that black or you're mainly doing highlights. It takes a few tries to get it right. Second, remember to shake the bottle well. The instruction doesn't say for how long; I gave it a few shakes and the liquid was already foaming up so I stopped. I think I should have shaken it more to get the mixture right.

Although the tv ads grossly misrepresented this product, and I mean grossly, the end result is gorgeous color with a delicious shine. It is as messy as using ordinary color, and it does drip (I had to replace, light switch, shower curtain and bathmats, and couldn't get the stains out of the sink or the walls, but that's with any DIY dye job!!) It also took more than 10 mins because it doesn't pump but rather you have to squeeze the bottle which is awkward and messy. The color does not rinse clear for about a week. However, it does not stain the skin or the scalp, lasts well and because the color is so natural, no unsightly roots, you can only tell that your color is fading when the light goes through the hair, whoohoo!! And in the end the gorgeous, shiny, soft and natural looking color was worth all the trouble, bonus: I got the same result that more expensive colors offer! In fact I just bought another bottle!! Maybe this time I'll be less messy and quicker!!
Comments about Clairol Nice 'n Easy Color Blend Foam, Black 2, 1 ea:
I am really excited about all these foam hair colors, so I'm trying all the brands. This was the worst, by far. The smell was extremely strong and unpleasant, and rinsing it out of my hair has been almost impossible. It's been a week and I'm still getting some slight color in the rinse water when I wash my hair -- and I wash my hair daily. It stained everything in the shower and I'm having the hardest time getting the color off the fiberglass. John Frieda's foam color is much better. I would use the John Frieda product all the time, but the shade isn't quite dark enough for me so I have to alternate using the Frieda with some darker color.

This product was a mess to use the foam really isn't a foam it liquifys as soon as it touches your head and got everywere the color is good but so is the color on their other creme products which do not created such a mess, it got on the floor, on chairs on the sink, drip drip drip, I tried it cause it looked easy on tv. don't try to to messy and it is not a real foam I kept shaking and shaking and then you have to squeeze the bottle it looks like a pump but it is nothing more than a squeeze bottle.. Going back to my usual easier to use Clariol product.

Frequently Asked Questions: About Clairol Products
How do I mix it? For best results, less is more. Here are some tips: Once you pour the colorant, which is bottle 1, into the foamer bottle (bottle 2), put the cap on and give it 3 simple shakes to mix the contents. The formula mixes easily. No more shaking is necessary. The mixed formula remains a liquid in the bottle; the foam forms when you squeeze it into your hand.
If you over-shake or continue to shake during the application process, the bottle may fill with foam and cause the foam to be runny. If this happens, do not apply yet. See number 3 below.
How do I apply it? After 3 simple shakes, allow the mixture to settle for 30 seconds. Then, squeeze the center of the bottle to start the foaming action. The mixed formula remains a liquid in the bottle; the foam forms when you squeeze it into your hands. Apply the foam to your head with your hands. Continue applying until your hair is completely wet.
If the foam is runny, do not apply; discard on a paper towel or tissue. You may have over-shaken the product. Allow the mixture to settle for 30 seconds, then squeeze the foamer bottle lightly 2-3 times until high-quality foam is dispensed. Keep the bottle upright while squeezing for the best quality foam and to prevent runniness.
It didn't foam up; it was a runny foam. What's wrong? You may have over-shaken it. You only need 3 simple shakes to mix the product. This technology works with the unique foamer cap to transform the liquid in the bottle and create a drip-free foam in your hand when the bottle is squeezed. If the foam is runny, do not apply¿discard on a paper towel or tissue. Allow the mixture to settle for 30 seconds, then squeeze the foamer bottle 2-3 times until high quality foam is dispensed. Do not re-shake during use.
Holding the bottle horizontally while squeezing can also cause runny foam to be dispensed. Be sure to keep the bottle upright while using.
For future use, please remember:
You only need 3 simple shakes to mix the product, using a gentle shake. You don't want a lot of foam to be created inside the bottle.
The product should remain liquid in the bottle and you must squeeze the bottle to create foam in your hand.
Always let the product settle for 30 seconds after mixing to ensure the foam in the correct consistency.
Do not re-shake during use.

Examine the test area during the next 48 hours. If no reaction occurs, you are ready to color.
The absence of a reaction to this test is no guarantee that an allergic reaction may not occur as a result of a future hair coloring process. However, this test represents an important precaution. Please consult a doctor if you have any doubts.

Strand Test:
Do the Strand Test each time you color to determine optimal timing and color results. Perms, relaxers, previous color, and the sun can affect your results and timing. You will need: scissors, tape and a clock.
Cut a ¼ inch wide strand from the darkest or grayest part of your dry hair close to the scalp and tape at the cut end.
Completely cover the hair strand with the mixture remaining from the allergy test. Start timing. After 15 minutes, check the strand. If the strand is not the color you want, return it to the mixture and check the color every few minutes for up to 25 minutes. For extra light blonding, more intense color results, or to cover resistant grays, it may be necessary to leave the hair color on for up to 45 minutes. Fill in your personal color time below: My timing for desired color: _______ minutes.
Color Hints & Tips:
Do not apply to wet hair. Apply color to dry hair that is free of styling product build-up. If hair has build-up, shampoo one day prior to coloring.
Do not shampoo immediately before coloring. Your scalp has natural oils that help to protect it during the coloring process.
If any color gets on your skin or household surface, wipe it off immediately with a damp towel.
Use the additional ColorSeal Conditioning Gloss 1 week after coloring.
Call the Expert Color Consultants at 1-800-CLAIROL if you are going more than two shades lighter or darker than your current color, going dramatically red or if you have bleached, double processed or highlighted hair.
Wait at least 1 week after perming or relaxing before coloring.
